Question regarding set and setting with methylone

I have a small query I have often wondered about when it comes to methylone. As I have heard others say with mdma for the most part (assuming it is pure mdma), the mood change to that induced state of mind is less reliant on external stimuli, often the user is 'pushed' into that state of mind after dropping. Obviously this is subjective and not always the case.
By the same regard methylone is more reliant on set and setting, i.e. once the methylone is taken the direction the trip goes in can be influenced greatly by the users state of mind prior, to a much greater extent than mdma. Generally I have heard for example someone tripping alone can turn the heightened effects of methylone inward when they hit, even if music should be playing etc.
So with that said, what are others thoughts that set and setting on methylone (say if a user was tripping alone as opposed to with another person or a group of people, at a club etc) can be the difference between an anxiety ridden, panic driven, generally all round unpleasant experience, and a blissful, euphoric, empathetic, all the good effects of methylone experience?
Also, when someone experiences a bad experience, does anyone know exactly how the serotonin and dopamine release is being affected (when the euphoria, empathy etc related to the release of these neuro transmitters is absent)?

I would also like to know the answer to these questions.

So far all of my methylone experiences (all with my wife) have seemingly lacked what I "expected" (though I have no basis for comparison as I've never even tried MDMA), and I wonder if it's just because of set and setting. This culminated in our last trial this weekend of 220mg each, which didn't really have much euphoria to speak of for me (or, at least, the euphoric part was minimal).

I find with methylone the dosage range can vary greatly from person to person; for example, you take 220mg and feel very little and that dose may floor someone else, what is the most you have taken in one dose in your experiences so far? Another side of the coin I'm seeing and hearing about with methylone and dosages (interestingly this can apply to mdma too) is where less can be more so to speak. Maybe for the next experience, if you haven't already, try 175mg or there abouts (what I hear to be the threshold dose for full effects) and see how it works out for you. Obviously in your case, stomach contents prior to dropping can be defining in how the experience plays out. Also, how often have you tried methylone so far and with how long of a break between each session, as tolerance could be a factor (although very unlikely as you seem to be very new to this substance)? With that ruled out we are back to set and setting.
When you say the experiences lacked what you 'expected' what exactly were you looking from this substance in trying it? Although again, thats set and setting, it would be interesting to get others point of views and experiences on this. In your circumstance, dropping with your significant other, this is where this substance really seems to shine. So in that aspect it is very strange you are getting very little out of it, if tolerance and stomach content aren't interfering with your experience, based on the dosage you take (which is a strong dose by most standards).
How does your wife find the experience?

To answer your questions, we've spaced doses by at least one month, so I don't think that's the issue, and we started low (~160mg) and worked our way up to 220mg. Each experience has been pretty similar, but the side-effects (residual jittery stimulation and muscle issues lasting many many hours after main effects) get worse each time we up the dose, so I don't think I'm going to go any higher.

It's not that we're getting "very little" out of it. In fact, each time we've tried it has been a great experience. However, what I was looking for was something MDMA-like (once again, I've never tried MDMA, so I'm just going by what others say). There's a minor amount of euphoria, but mainly the effects seem to be "speedy psychedelic thoughts" for both of us. I've never tried amphetamines, but this is what I would have imagined they are like. This is not bad or unexpected, but what I'm missing is the loved-up-euphoria that I've heard so much about.

Nah I get pretty extrovert from methylone, sociable, gregarious and euphoric with a speedy edge.
Still, the push is far greater from MDMA, by that I mean a sense of urgency, of positive urgency - I feel like bursting with pleasure, almost like it's on the brink of being too much too fast. I don't get that with methylone and I like that. Methylone is more dilated and there is less urge in the effect.

It depends on the person though, I know some that turn introvert from MDMA because they just cannot let themselves go in company of others, the push of MDMA to them is like forcing them into something they are insecure about so the anxiety and rejection persists.

On the other hand, methylone can work just as pushy as MDMA if the individual is open to it. If someone is how should I say.... already directed towards being open and making fun with and talking to other people, methylone just pushes you over the low threshold and you do a lot of it yourself.

It's always the combination, set and setting includes set: mindset, who the person is and how his mind works.

Some compounds are a lot less dependent on set & setting though, uppers and downers are more simple and straightforward than psychedelics - its a whole spectrum.
