ok before i give you my question i have to give you a little background info, so bear with me...
i've been snorting way too much H for quite a while now (daily since september, with a peak period at december when i was snorting 2g+/day)...
now i have tapered down quite a bit (under 1g/day), but have decided that after this weekend I REALLY am going to stop (yeah, I’ve said that before, but this time copping out is simply not an option)…
but that’s AFTER this weekend, in which I have a bit of a binge in plan (not H binge mind you, other drugs)… I am, however, EXTREMELY tempted at trying my first IV heroin ever this weekend on xtc comedown…
..now heres my question:
will doing ONE (and I do mean ONE) hit of IV heroin make my kicking much harder?
Considering the amount I’ve done in recent months I doubt it seriously, but I’ve heard people getting pretty serious withdrawls after IV’ing only a fraction of what I’ve snorted, and doing it over a much longer period of time, whence my anxiousness over this issue…

If you havent IVed it, it's crossing the blood brain barrier as morphine
wtf??? this cannot possibly be true (or not entirely true at least), since morphine is given to detoxing patients for the sole reason that it gets rid of w/d without giving you a hit... and i sure as hell have had hits from snorting...
...maybe a part is metabolised & crosses the BBB as morphine... but not the whole lot...
still, i'd be interested in more opinions on this one...

Its ironic you talk about wanting to quit heroin yet you want to try MAINLINING it, hmm doesnt seem you really wanna quit that much.

my understanding of this is that heroin does cross the bloodbrain barrier and then converts to morphine after a couple of minutes hence the high from H. once in the body it is the same as morphine.
Pls correct if i am wrong.

If you seriously wanna quit, the last thing you should do is IV it...
That's like a guy having homosexual thoughts, and then saying to himself "I feel these thoughts are wrong and I'm gonna ignore it, but first I'm gonna bang one guy so I can get it outta my system"...
(NOTE : I'm not saying homosexuality is wrong, it's just part of my silly example)

I think it's not important wether the IVíng will make it harder to quit or not. What IS important, is that if you really want to IV it that bad, it very much so implies that you have no motivation to quit.
*BlueDeep, that's funny :D

Heroin crosses the blood brain barrier and then is converted to morphine. Heroin crosses the BBB much faster than morphine. When you snort H, it is converted to morphine before it reaches the blood brain barrier. Morphine doesnt cross the blood brain barrier nearly as fast as heroin.
Snorting Heroin is the same as snorting Morphine.

Could you please explain this further. It makes no sense to me. Where is the heroin converted, and by what means? Snorting something puts the drug directly into your blood, just much more slowly than IV, so if the heroin isnt broken down when you IV, why is it when insufflated? And are you sure that ALL of the heroin is broken down to morphine before reaching the bbb when you sniff it? 'Cause I've snorted both H and morphine many many times, and the H does feel different. Are you telling me that this is a placebo effect? Another thing, if snorting h is the same as snorting morphine why does a bump of h the size of a pea get me fucked when it would take much more morphine than that to do the job? What about when you smoke heroin, does it cross the bbb as H?

Human sera and tissues contain enzymes which de-acetylate heroin and dihydroheroin. Snorting it etc. would increase the rate of this action.
You get more bang for your buck sticking it in your blood as heroin crosses the BBB pretty damn well (as was noted).
It is metabolized into morphine, but may have direct action on opiate receptors .
Taking heroin is not the same as taking morphine. No matter how you do it.
IV drug use is no way to begin recovery. You should try to recover from addiciton when you are serious. You are just wasting your time.

thanks for all your replies people....
and yes, as most of you have sussed out (doesnt take much mind you) i have indeed little or no intention of stopping...
fact is, this isnt an option... right now i'm financially fucked (as anyone who's read my thread in 'legal Q&A' knows) and on top of that my job may require me to occasionaly travel abroad for a few days... i can't see myself holding long to this job if i'll be meeting our foreign clients in full withdrawls...
basically i GOT to stop, even if i dont want to in any degree, whence my desire to 'finish off with a bang' (literally ;) )...
this said i think ill go with the advice above... ill just rail more, and keep the spike for another day....
thanks again for all for your input people

if you IV now and dont manage to quit, it will probably be needles youre going back to. I mean, its cheaper AND better ... youll just say "fuck it!" and off you go, and only think about the positive aspects of IV heroin. Probably not the brightest idea when awaiting detox.
But you know, you can quit if you really want to. But why risk anything if the plan is a life without heroin. Maybe your brain is just as slow as mine and you just forgot to think in advance ;)
If going clean is the only option then dont put yourself in situations that *might* get the best of you. A junkie is a junkie is a junkie, we have our ways around things, the only thing protecting us from addiction is our own willpower.
Thats ALL youve got. Relying on circumstances just doesnt cut it. Most of the times, anyway.

Actually Bonecutter, it just sounds like you had absolutely no idea what you were talking about.
i.e. You're full of shit.
Don't be giving advice when you don't know what you are talking about.
People take advice on here in hopes that there is a higher intellect on the other end of the line.
If you don't know the facts, don't be a fool.
And to the poster of the topic, it's just like cocaine...one more line and then I'm done.
Just stop while you're ahead my friend, best of luck.
Peace.

Actually that was the first time I;ve been high in many months and I barely remember posting....so it's all deleted now Hate posting when I cant even think straight.
But you should mind your manners, greenlighter. I give good advice...most of the time.

Don't make excuses, and don't make silly comments like "greenlighter".
For one, I've been posting here FAR LONGER than you.
And two, this is an internet message board, not highschool.
