Question for the christmas haters

Well done for not judging Christmas celebrants- Romans 14 forbids a Christian from judging the holy days another believer chooses to observe. I personally believe that Christmas is good because Constantine set it up (along with Easter) to bring sinners into league with Christ. This was a wonderful piece of evangelism, and it's what we celebrate in our hearts that God judges- He will condemn those who idolatrously worship the sun, solstice, etc but not those who use the Christmas season to remember our savior's birth.

Thanks! I don't find it so difficult because I have friends from so many backgrounds who believe so many different things. On a side note, though, I think in that chapter Paul was addressing the Jew/Gentile debate about the Jews in the new church still celebrating Jewish holidays/dietary restrictions ordained under Mosaic Law while these holidays/diet meant nothing to the Gentiles in the church.

good post brah. im glad someones decent in here lol, it doesnt matter when he was born, christmas is here to remember His birth, just like you said.

Paul was indeed referring to the arguments between Jew and Gentile believers- but it applies to days ordained by Christians after the early church too. And even Christ signalled the end of kosher rules (Kashrut): "For it is not what goes into a man's mouth that defiles him but what proceeds out of his mouth."
Mosaic Law was written for the Israelites and was fulfilled by Christ so we should "serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the written code."

Yah, a lot of ppl don't realize that actually, Jesus is NOT the reason for the season. Almost everything about christmas is rotted in pagan traditions.

It's truf! The original church didn't celebrate Christmas for the 300 years following the resurrection. The celebration only started when Constantine started Christianizing pagan holidays to make the transition easier for pagans. Hence December 25th...which is likely nowhere near the original date Christ was born. I'm actually do not celebrate Christmas for this reason.

but if he was born in the fall he could have been conceived (if i'm using the right word) around dec. 25th or if he was born in the spring as a sinless human he could have possibly developed quicker than a normal human and still have been conceived around dec. 25th (just something i find interesting but don't hold it as truth yet i still accept that it may be a possibility)

i never understood the whole debating over why or why not to celebrate holidays. i've always been the one to wish people a happy (insert special day of meaning) no matter what it may be (even daylight savings day =P). i've never been one to stringently stick by whatever cultural traditions and customs i should or should not have (in the past this was due to me just not giving a shit but more recently its due to my agreement with the terrance mckenna idea that culture is your operating system.) for me i'm fine just celebrating w/e holiday the people i'm around want to celebrate (so long as it doesn't involve any traditions or practices i don't want any part in but i probably wouldn't be around people who do things that fit that criteria in the first place)

and why can't traditions change overtime. just because Christmas may have originally been a pagan tradition why can't it now be a christian holiday with new meaning. i mean no one celebrates it anymore as a pagan tradition (at least not that i know of.)

Just remind her that while mothers and sons in normal families will be spending the Holiday together and happy she still has an ungrateful son that hates her.

That'll learn her.

winner.

OP'er, i don't know what your mom did to deserve such vitriol, so i won't go there.

but your opening post is not obscure knowledge, and the power to use it lies in actually knowing that it isn't. then, learning more. right now it should be questions, not statements.

Im not a fan. I hate having to go about buying everyone gifts and thinking "what would this dickhead/bitch want for christmas?". Id rather buy myself stuff that I want and they buy stuff that they want and everyone wins, or not buying stuff at all. And family getting togther to spend time togther and what not. Like rubbish from generations before me. Say hello to my generation, I don't want to hang around with any of you.

Everyone acting all happy and stuff "merry christmas statiSHUT up....just shut up.....Go to your room!"
