Bupe Question for anyone who does or has done Oxy on Suboxone

I am on daily suboxone 8mg taken once daily under pharmacist's supervision. Yesterday I had my sublingual dose at 12pm, and then decided I would try snorting half a 40mg OC before work at 10pm. I knew suboxone would limit the effects of the oxy but it made me higher; enough to make me want to do the same again today.

Just wondering, how soon after your bupe dose is it safe to take Oxy? I don't want to go into precipitated withdrawal if the Oxy beats the Bupe to the brain.. And I would assume the sooner after your bupe dose you take Oxy the less the effects would be, correct?

PS I'm not looking for a lecture on why I shouldn't be taking Oxy while on Suboxone. Yes, I know you can overdose and yes, I know Suboxone is to get you off Opiates...

You are correct that the longer you wait, the more you will feel the oxy. However, with bupe's long half life, waiting an extra hour or three, would probably not make much of a difference.. Hell, when I was on 8mg of suboxone, even after 72 hours I could not get a proper high on 20mg of oxycodone. The issue is not just bupes high affinity to the receptor sites, but also one of tolerance. Even though it is a partial agonist, it is still a super potent opioid none the less.

As for precipitated withdrawal, it probably won't be an issue as long as you continue to take your suboxone and use light dosages of oxycodone. Precipitated withdrawal really has only occurred when I have been off bupe for a few days and using full agonists in its place.

However, that does not mean that this is a safe thing to keep doing. You are still mixing depressants. Bupe may have a cieling effect on resperitory depression, but oxy does not, which can put you at risk for an overdose. All in all it's not worth it IMO, though I am not going to sit here and judge your program as mine has been far from perfect. Do realize though, that if you continue to do this, your tolerance to opioids will rise, and you will need to use more oxycodone to achieve desired effects. At the same time, putting the oxycodone down, might leave you feeling a but uncomfortable on your current dosage of buprenorphine though it would unlikely be anything serious (due to how drastically stronger buprenorphine is than oxycodone).

i used to have to take 8mg suboxone under supervision in the morning, but then i would pocket my afternoon and evening doses (8-12mg total), and trade for dilaudid which i would shoot in the evenings. i got high every time, and never felt unwell in the least. this went on for months. some ppl who i traded the suboxone to claimed that if they took even a half in the morning, they couldnt get high in the evening. i think there are alot of variables. safety first tho.

I used to take oxycontin, old formula...
But I don't know about subs.
I love your screen name, throwupmonster.
That will stick in my head forever.
