question: favourive book? (merged)

^^^Heard great reports about Illuminatus trilogy I'm currently on the waiting list! I've just started "stupid white-men" by Michael Moore a good read even if your not from the U.S.

Damn! There are a lot of good books listed here. Definately The Great Gatsby and anything by Frank Herbert (He wrote many great books including The Jesus Incident series which is just as good as the Dune series IMHO)

Space, Time and Origin all by Stephen Baxter

These are very trippy books. He has many well thought out ideas on, well, space, time and the origin of the universe and his books are just very good entertaining science fiction.

I just finished reading interview with the vampire, good book, not the best I've read but its better then the movie. It has an indepth description of the life and behavious/psycholody of a vampire (more so then the movie), and I like the symbolism of the original house in the book.

I would recomend the discworld series by Terry pratchett. Perhaps the best fantasy series ive read, only read about half a dozen but they are amazing. The guys a genious and you really cant describe something like those books. On a more technical note, the way the book describes the universe and various states of existance is truly inspired.

I would also recomend "once an eagle" by Anton Myrer. Its a war book but its really so much more. Good description of fighting scenes and all that, but I think its also a statement about why there really shouldnt be any wars at all. It portails the life, death and psychology of a soldier. Fantastic book. Its not only for guys wanting to read about bloody n gore though, its a book for anyone that will really inspire or at least pull you in.

oh and look up books by Fred alan wolf. A physisist/scientist that goes into the supernatural a bit, into dreams, and into quantum physics. Good read.

Everything I have read by Pat Conroy has been exceptionally well-written. He's a contemporary Southern novelist...having grown up in the South, I really relate well to his perspective.

The Lords of Discipline
Beach Music
The Prince of Tides
My Losing Season
The Water is Wide

My favorite of Conroy's is Lords of Discipline. Second favorite is Beach Music. Haven't read The Great Santini yet.

I will try. I started with Tale of the Body Thief, (that's all I could find at the library)and was a bit confused and not very amused with the main character so I only read the first 50 pages or so. But then I found the first book at the library so I'll try that one. Right now I am reading Taltos.

Ulysses - James Joyce
The Stranger - Albert Camus
Breakfast of Champions - Kurt Vonnegut
Patrimony - Philip Roth
Homage to Catalonia - George Orwell
Marabou Stork Nightmares - Irvine Welsh

Eh, that's a good enough list for now. I'm currently 2 (two) pages into Finnegan's Wake. I'm very proud of myself.

hitchhikers guide to the galaxy
