Question about Topamax

hello. I am new here. I don't know where to put this so hopefully one of the MODS will put it where it needs to go.

I am asking if anyone knows anything about topamax? My Doctor said it would help me loose weight, but it has made me real depressed I think. Any answers or info would be great. Thank you, April

It's an anti-convulsant. Anti-convulsants usually have side effects, one of which is depression. It does have a reputation of causing weight loss but that's a piss poor reason for anyone to take it.

Yea this seems like a dumb choice for weight loss, I'd stop taking it. These anticonvulsants generally tend to have side effects and sometimes withdrawal too upon discontinuation.

thank you all for the replies. I did quit taking it.Everything had a metallic taste and I was very depressed!

It made my skin feel like it was on fire.....Hated this drug out of all the ones I have tried......The side effects are just too much and I hardly complain of side effects.

I take it, for bipolar and for migraine prevention. I find that it really works for preventing my migraines, I get them a lot less frequently than I did before. I have no side effects aside from a bit of the dumbing-down...and no weight loss, sigh!
