Question about Suboxone and other opiates

Hi all, I am new here but have been an avid reader for years. Thank you all for the information and support you guys give! Probably saved my ass a time or two.

So I have a pretty dumb question or at least it would seem to me, but I wanted to know what your experiences have been in the past. I have been using opiates on and off for 4 years. Have had some pretty bad addictions. Mainly oxy and Norco. I have been off of those for about a year no and have been on Suboxone since. I went from about 400-500mm a day of either of those two, then spent two days in withdrawal and then started on Suboxone. I was taking 12mg day for that whole time and have slowly been tapering the last couple months. I am now down to 2mg and about to go down to 1 tomorrow. Haven't really had a problem with the taper or withdrawals.

So my question is, I want to go off of Suboxone by the end of this week or so and I know I'm going to have some wd symptoms, but I want to be able to take oxy on occasions for pain or euphoria. Once I am off Suboxone and withdrawal free, a. Will I be able to take 10mg or so of oxy and feel pretty good (not really looking to nod or anything, never was a fan) and b. Will it set me back into withdrawal or anything? I know the risk of taking oxy once and going back down that path, but I am just curious. Any advice on the subject is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, Welcome to the site. Thanks for making an intro!

No question is a dumb question whatsoever. I used to use those 2 drugs for about the same time myself which led to Heroin. Congrats on moving onto the subs! You might feel something yes from the Oxy but not much, and in my experience the body/brain remembers one's tolerance especially if you were on such a high dose and wish to take a very minimal dose fairly quickly.

Yes, you may have some withdrawal sx kick in. I had a minor spinal procedure in which I was injected with pain killers, a year later and had some runny nose and minor symptoms. I couldn't believe it but I did.

I am not you but if you decide to take 10 mg of Oxy with that previous tolerance you will probably need a lot more to reach the same effect. Even if not physically when you do psychologically you might.

Best,
Smoky.

Thanks for the response! I keep refreshing it haha. Ok, today I have only taken 1mg of sub, .5 at 9:00am and .5 at 11am. It is now 9:00pm, I am starting to feel the RLS, sweats and oncoming bowel issues haha, if I tried to take the oxy, or Norco for that matter, would I feel anything from it? Or would it cause any breathing or heart issues?

I appreciate saying there is no dumb questions, I just haven't had as pleasant experience at other forums so... Haha.

Hi, Do you mind if I move your thread to another location so more folks can reply?

If you are coming off subs I wouldn't recommend taking an agonist (opiate medication), right now. This is my opinion, others may differ.

I just received this - did you decide to do anything?

Please let me know. Best, Smoky :)

One time I quit opiates for about 3 weeks from a one time use of suboxone. I went back to heroin after being clean for 3 weeks and went on a 3 day binge and was fine after stopping. I think if you give your body and mind enough time it'll be like you're an opiate naive again. This is just my experience and thoughtskills about it though.

"So I have a pretty dumb question or at least it would seem to me" - cmon now stop that

Plz stop with that. Don't ever do that again.. ever. If you feel the need to ask, just ask. Be secure with yourself.

Answer is.. not for quite a while. It won't feel the same either, not even close. And if you do start taking enough to get a good feeling, you're close to getting into a withdrawal situation again and your body will have started to remember what it was getting before. I'd suggest waiting a long time before dropping in a pill so that your body will have readjusted to NORMAL. Happened to me and I had to learn new techniques.
Don't go chasing that feeling just yet. Wait at least 6 months. I doubt you will, but try. You'll feel better for it. And don't ever do it more than a day or 2.
