Question about Serotonin Toxicity

Hi! I recently got a prescription for Tramadol. Two days ago I took 100mg in the morning then 5 hours later took 150mg more. About an hour after taking the last dose I started to get really hot and flushed. I'd put the A/C on then shortly after I'd get really cold and begin trembling. I kept going from hot to cold with major chills and goosebumps. I kept trembling on and off. My heart was beating extremely fast and I was sweating profusely. When I looked in the mirror my pupils were scary big! I was dizzy, and now super scared.

Long story short, I rode it out all night without medical help. The next day I felt anxious but otherwise okay. I didn't smoke cannabis all day as I was scared of a panic attack. I took 2 mg of Lorazepam throughout the day and that helped tremendously.

I usually smoke high grade stuff all day, every day. I have for years. But today I figured all the effects of the possible Serotonin Toxicity should be gone. I loaded a bowl of regular grade (to be on the safe side), took just one puff, and started feeling anxious and a bit dizzy.

I really want to smoke some pot, damnit, but I'm scared it will mess with my serotonin. Cannabis is my daily medicine and I would be devastated if I couldn't smoke for a while.

My question is: Do you think it's just anxiety or should I really avoid cannabis? If so, for how long?

I don't think the cannabis is affecting your brain in the way you think it is. I think you'll be fine smoking some pot, don't freak yourself out.

...however...

I would definitely talk to your doctor about your Tramadol reaction. Are you on any other meds?

I agree. Serotonin toxicity is very very dangerous. From what I've reviewed, it seems that it would most likely occur from tramadol + antidepressants, but not tramadol alone. I think you may be suffering from dehydration, but serotonin syndrome is nothing to fuck with--go talk to a doctor so that you can rule it out.

Tramadol alone doesn't cause "serotonin toxicity". Those effects actually sound like you just took too much tramadol for your body to handle.

Thanks for the responses. I was not on any other medication. I guess I did just take too much. I thought it was a moderately low dose though, considering when I come by hydrocodone I take 40 mg every 4 hours.
Anyway, I started smoking again a couple of days later, so it's all good now! I just know I won't touch those nasty trams again.
