question about pseudoephedrine extraction

my friend was reading this guide and would like to know,
what's happening here? the methanol is extracting the pfed?
and what is happening when he adds acetone?
is the acetone absorbing the crystals or is it washing the methanol solution?

Dude it's water souble. Just fuckin wipe off the red from the pills with wet paper towels, and "extract" with water and filter.

I hope for the love of god and mother Mary you're going to oxidize it and not try to reduce it into meth. You will fucking kill yourself doing that. You don't even understand solubilities.

I don't really intend to do anything just attempting to understand it. thanks for the wake up call, it's pseudoephedrine HCL, so of course can be extracted in water.

if he was going to throw it in a flask in an ice bath and reduce it, how much water would be added? should it be saturated slowly like a drop at a time, just enough to react?
