Is there anyway to hide the "see recent posts/threads" on your profile from other users?

No. All users on the site can search posts and threads by username and the button that you mention is just a continuation of that. If you are unhappy with the privacy of your current account you can abandon it and make a new account (PMing a mod if you do so is quite helpful). Otherwise feel free to read the Greenlighter's Guide and FAQ for more information on privacy and make use of the Anonymous Posting Forum for especially sensitive issues.
