question about mushroom honey

there's only one place in town where i live that sells grey goose, wyborowa, absolut, etc (the just over 40ish%) but i have seen higher proof vodkas in the bigger chain liquor stores when i've been out of town, namely brisbane and cairns. i live in central queensland so there's no huge chains here. i'm not sure what percentage would be sufficient enough to store it and have it last as psilo mentioned, psyches aren't my forte and i know basically naught when it comes to these types of extractions and storage for psilocybin:)

The best thing to use is methanol. If i have some time i will upload sum pics of the finished product. Just let me know if anyone is keen on seeing em.
 
^ just poking my nose in here but methanol is VERY poisonous - are you sure you don't mean ETHANOL!?! Just wondering as methanol most certainly isn't food safe.

Even if you evaporate it off, to have extract leftover - wouldn't this A) degrade the psilocybin, and more importantly B) possibly leave traces of (I cannot stress this enough) poisonous methanol.

I'll second Jblazingphoenix100's warning on the dangers of methanol. Unlike it's extra carbon counterpart - ethanol - methanol is oxidised to the very toxic formaldehyde, which, among other ghastly things, causes blindness. Methanol can also be absorbed through the skin. I keep some on hand as a solvent for cleaning, but I won't use it if another solvent can do the job.

If methanol is used and completely evaporated off, there should be little remaining in the product. A vacuum desiccator would do a faster job, but if there is still concern, the almost dry product could be dissolved in another, less toxic alcohol, and the drying process repeated.
 
I have found that a mixture of both ethanol and methanol is best for this extraction. It seems to get higher yields than using one or the other. Always use the purest solvents that you can get and there shouldn't be any problem with the end product.

Straight ethanol seems to leave a black/blue sludgy extract where as the mixture of ethanol and methanol evaporates off to form off white crystal every time.
