First post on this website, saw some interesting things made me want to sign up and maybe get some answers and share my knowledge in return. :D

I was diagnosed with bipolar I about 2 years ago and the way my disorder manifests itself mainly is a very intense mania where, ive been told, i seem to almost be a tweaker. That stuffs really bad for you never have tried it dont intend on it but thats besides the point. Back on topic i denied medication about a year ago because of my fun go-party lifestyle which has since calmed down to the point where the mania is troublesome and just gets in the way of life so i decided to go on medication. About 2 weeks ago i decided to go and see my doc again and try out some medication. Naturally they put me on Lithium Carbonate on a relatively small dose of only 600mg once per day. I had a life changing experience with 2c-I a few weeks back(pre-meds) and feel LSD is the natural next step for me because shrooms are a familiar territory for me. Being a person of some sort of intelligence, i like to research what i put into my body before it happens and any possible interactions which as im sure you've heard, lithium and almost any hallucinogen almost always ends badly but from what im reading, it almost seems like the problem isnt the interactions, the problem is the side effects of both drugs and an intensifying effect on them in your body.

For those who dont want to read all of that id just like to know personal experiences with lithium and shrooms, or lithium and LSD, maybe even some other hallucinogens or psychedelics, in low doses, maybe half a hit of acid or half eighth of shrooms because from what i have read, the problems come in regular to higher doses of these substances. Thoughts anyone? Also thanks for the read i know its a bit long xD

EDIT: Just realized this is in the wrong place... also that sticky is hard for my to understand and im asking for personal experiences, maybe a scientific reason behind it if you have one but mostly just personal experiences

You can't take them together, there are terrible complications like a big chance of seizures.

That's what ive been hearing but nobody seems to know why, and other people seem to have tried it and been fine... what im wondering is do you think its a dose thing? Like if i were to take say, 1g of shrooms instead of a standard eighth dose, it seems like the chances are alot less, and im just looking for someone who has firsthand experience with this. Sorry if i come off stubborn, i just love my shroomies and its dissapointing that i may never never get to experience them again unless i want to stop taking my meds for a little while which honestly wouldnt be the worst thing in the world anyways as i find most of these things to be therapeutic and almost always come out of my trips with a different and more positive mindset.

It is disappointing to think you can't take psychedelics anymore but you need to weigh the pros and cons. The majority of information about combining Lithium with psychs is negative, although a few people have reported no negative effects. But the potential negative effects include seizures and worse. No one can tell you that you will be safe if you take a smaller dose just because they did and were OK.

Also even without lithium LSD can trigger bipolar episodes. My dad was a bipolar acid head and I've seen it first hand. That said I think psychedelics really helped him at times by letting him out of his mind and resetting his emotional compass. He was a lot happier and more fun to be around when he self-medicated with LSD instead of alcohol or speed. But after a honeymoon period he would get weirder and weirder and eventually go off on a full mania; telling cops he was God and emptying his bank account to give all his money to street people etc.

When he eventually chose to go on lithium he did it because he couldn't put up with the chaos of his unmedicated life. He said he gave up a lot when he took lithium -- he felt less creative, he became really sensitive to fabrics and touch in general, he could no longer enjoy mushrooms or other psychedelics. But he said it was worth it to him because he woke up every morning knowing he was going to be the same person who went to bed the night before.

My advice to you is that if lithium is working and your life is better with it you'd be wise to keep it up and avoid combining it with these drugs. It would be physically safer to go off the lithium before tripping, but there is the risk you will aggravate your bipolar condition. On the other hand, less risk of seizures/death.

Don't even risk it. There are no well-documented cases, as far as i know, of people using psychedelics on pharmaceutical doses of lithium successfully, and in fact as Soli pointed out there is a pile of evidence that it may be harmful.

thanks for the help guys... im def going to go off my meds before i even think of trying this untill i talk to my doctor about it... i can be honest with her and she already knows i enjoy experiences like that and then learning why it changes your perception so much. thanks for the personal story bunny, thats more of what i was looking for and actually describes my situation a little bit except that at this time in my life, my bi-polar is not quite that extreme.

That would probably be best. I haven't really come across any info that would lead me to believe it would be an enjoyable or safe experience. Definitelya good idea to talk to the doc about it.
