Question about Legit Opiates

I have an opiate problem: I have a Chron's Disease and suffer from Chronic Pain. Most of my Docs are assholes and are always reluctant to give me enough pain meds (what I think is enough :) ), so I end up going to diffrent doctors - the doc at the university & my specialist and get oxy from both (OC 10s, sometimes 20s and Percs)...
Now, I go to the Emergency room at the hospital once every while for pain and they IV me Demerol... the thing is, they IV me the dose they would give to an opiate virgin (but i'm sort of tolerant, I've been taking 30-60mg of oxy a day - depending on the day)... can I tell them that i'm tolerant to opiates, to get a higher dose of demerol and to get prescribed oxy when they send me home?
Would it help if take empty prescrition bottles for OC 20s and OC 10s, to prove to them that I take legit oxy?
Thanks for the help,
Kalza (aka RedLeb to some of you :) )

If you suffer from a disease and have any kind of medical history, it seems a little strange that the hospital wouldn't verify your condition. I would definitley take your prescription into the hospital the next time you go to show the docs. I would definitley suggest finding a different doctor as well, so you wouldn't have to hassle with the hospital. If the doctor is serious enough to diagnose a medical problem, it would seem right that they would be concerned with your welfare. When I have been prescribed pain medicine in the past, if a drug doesn't make the pain stop, I've never hesitated to go right back to the doctor and ask them to give me something worth my time. Good luck.
...unless you are some pillhead junkie whining because they won't hook you up with the good shit, ha ha ha ;)

Yep, if you are going to the ER for legit reasons, and you are taking painkillers that are prescribed to you, then you SHOULD be telling the docs that you take opiates daily and that you have a tolerance. And do speak up when they give you the shot and it's not enough..tell them that you are still in pain...it's a legitimate request -- you don't deserve to be in pain. I've had to do this during minor surgeries, because I have a high natural tolerance to opiates (as well as other downers)...and often they have to give me 2-3 times the normal dose to relieve my pain. Just be persistant...

Thanks for the replies, they were very helpful...
I was just wondering: if I asked them for a nice dose of OC (say 10 or 20 OC20s) when I leave the hospital (after telling them that my doctor prescribes me a decent ammount of opiates) would they give them to me? Or would they ask me to get them from my doctor (who I'm sure probably won't give me more...)?

If the OC's that your doctor presribes you aren't strong enough, they might write you a prescription, but it would be most-likely non-refillable because when you are on regular medication the doctor will want to do follow-up care, something a hosptial is not known for.
I'm sure this recent "fad" for these pills makes any doctor reluctant to give them out, especially to young people. They might be a little skeptic to prescribe a stronger pill too because they don't know your history, obviously, but really if your doctor sucks and your insurance will allow it, find a new doc. I have a friend that suffers from chronic pain and has presciption OC's among other things, but his doctor hooks him up when he needs it. Check around for soemone who might be a little less stingy and more sympathetic towards your need... :)

Try to get into a pain clinic- this underdosing for your pain is bullshit. There ARE doctors out there that will help you. My sister suffers from Cron's and ulcerative colitis. Her pain was bad enough and her doctor understanding enough that she was on a fentanyl patch for several months- she was also being fed by a tube for those months as well- a very advanced case, but it makes the point...

IF your really in pain.. your paying for these drugs, you need enough, like said above, switch docs, call a pain specialist and tell them your story, if your not a junkie they will hook you up.

Yeah, it would seem easy - you're in pain so go to a doctor and demand a supply of meds that will kill all pain... sadly this isn't the case.. with narcotics doctors are not quick to dispense high doses, even to someone that really needs them, and ER's are less likely to give you more then a few days supply of something like Percocet .. it IS possible though... a few pointers:
1) DEFINITLY take your medicine bottles, ALL OF THEM! However, an important thing is that the dates are right - do NOT bring in a bottle of OxyContin dated 15 days ago with 3 pills left... if you got a 30 day supply then that script better be dated at least 30 days ago if the bottle is empty .. another point thats even MORE important is the names on those bottles - if you have differnt doctors prescribing narcotics, you better have a damn good story - i.e. you can have your OxyContin which is from your "pain doctor" and then you can have some IR's which you could say was prescribed after you had some surgery recently, of course you better have a good story about WHAT was done .. I dont know enough about Chrons disease so I couldnt tell you what all you can claim...
2) Make sure you complain about not being medicated enough previously, cite your tollerance to current opioid medications and give a story about your previous experience by where the last time you were in the ER they didn't give you enough - still, most hospitals have a policy where they will give you a certin dose of narcotic pain killers, they wont give more because tyhey have no way to actually determine what your TRUE tollerance is - you could be lying and have finished off all yer meds weeks ago, dropping your tollerance .. yeah, the entire idea of insisting that you're still in pain and need more seems right, but more often then not you wont get more unless you're in the ER for an extended period of time ..
3) Offer your pain doctors phone number - even if it's 3am, it doesn't matter, this furthers the image of being a true chronic pain patient and shows them you have nothing to hide and are even OFFERING that doctor for their consultation.. see, most seekers will speak of "my other doctors" prescribing habbits but the last thing they want is for that doctor to be confronted about it ..
The above help, but in the end it's luck of the draw in what doctor you get... I have been to the ER crying in pain and only got a tiny opioid injection, and 10 Vicoprofen .. then again, I have casually walked into an ER and got 2 heavy blasts of morphine followed with a script for a weeks worth of OxyContin and even MORE OxyIR - same hospital, differnt doctors ... but DO NOT GO IN THERE WITH THE ATTITUDE OF "I have a legit problem and a legit tollerance, I need more meds and wont take anything less" .. while that is actually CORRECT you might come off as a seeker, in which case you wont get shit! Sorry, I know it's not fair, so don't reply to argue with this point - I am simply stating the way things truely work...
If you're a female and get a female doctor, you're doing good... a young male with a male doctor seems to have the worst luck.. if you're lucky enough to get to speak with an anesthesiologist you will do even better... so go in dressed like a presentable young adult, have those prescription bottles (mind the dates) and have your doctor(s) names and phone numbers, it also helps if you have "the friend" to comfort you (and to 'drive you home' so they will dope you up good!) .. this friend has to look even more presentable then you do!
