Question about hydro dosage with other meds - CWE?

I've done a search and had not found exactly what I was looking for.

I suffer from spinal stenosis in my lower back and an impacted vertebrae in my neck. My daily regime consists of 900mg gabapentin 3x day, 400mg etodolac 2x day (strong nsaid), and 75mg Nucynta 4-6 x a day. This has been my regime for the past three years. Earlier this year I was prescribed 3/325 hydros while my doctor fought with my insurance on the Nucynta (they wanted me to pay 85% co on it, would of been expensive). Got that taken care of quickly and still have about 100 3/325's left.

Occasionally I have pretty bad flair up and take two Nucyntas as instructed, but only helps a little bit, other than making my scalp go numb (friggin weird). If I take a hydro or two, I feel relief. But since I take Etodolac, I worry about liver damage (have to have it tested every six months while on Etodolac) with taking the hydros.

If I were to use CWE, how many hydro's would I do and still remain safe?

That may have been a typo or is the strength of your hydrocodone 3/325 because typically they are 5 or 10 mg.

Do you really need Etodolac? NSAID'S are great for back pain but I won't take them because of the harm they can cause your liver & stomach over time of taking them.......

I was prescribed NSAID meds & after a week of them hurting my stomach, I told my doctor I won't take them anymore cause of the bad effects.......so I just stick with hydrocodone 10/325's & muscle relaxants.

As for as how many hydro's you can take & be safe? You can do as many as you want as long as you do the CWE the right way........of course do what you can handle & don't over do it.

People tend to do CWE & see how good the high is w/o the Tylenol & their habit gets carried away.

Some people think you need to do a lot of pills in the CWE to be worth it but don't believe that........I've done 2 (10mg) hydro's in a CWE & it the job when that's all I needed.

Ah yes, they are 5/325, was a mistype.

As for the Etodolac, I asked that same question a few months ago and the doc said he wanted to keep them in the regime. It does help with quite a bit of the swelling around the sacrum and the attachment point swellings I get.

And I will try it with 3 and see how it works. I do tend to get a pretty bad headache after taking they hydro's, not sure if that is from the opiad or not though.

Doctors will always tell you to take a med for pain when its not a narcotic no matter how it hurts your body & organs.........if your organs fail you from that strong NSAID, its not them & the hospital & doctors make more money off you because you have a more serious health problem which equals more money for them.

The medical business is like any other business......the more customers that walk in that door, more money to be made.

Just my opinion, but not all doctors know what they're talking about.......

After my physical therapy yesterday, I did three pills using CWE and it was only a matter of 15 minutes or so when I started to feel it. It was a bit stronger than when I just take one, of course. Having read that there was some loss of the hydro, I thought I needed to do more. So I will try just two next time.

And surprisingly, no headache like I usually get from taking the pill form.

Thank you for the info!
