can plants nearing the last 2 weeks of flower go without light for 48 hours? ive been told they could go into shock if this happens. does anyone have exp with this kind of situation?

Yeah they can, it's apparently known by some growers to 'increase' THC production in the final days. But Ive known a few growers to say there was no real difference.

Just re-read your Q, if your doing it a few weeks before you harvest, your plant may have time to spit out some male flowers/seed's if they are there for long enough.

Any methods that your going to use that include stress are safest done in the last week of the plants life.

Over at rollitup.org a lot of the growers talk about doing something like this in their grow journals. I can't speak for it myself but a lot of people on that forum seem to know what they're talking about. I guess the idea is to trick the plant into thinking it's going to die, to increase resin production in it's last days. Some people claim it does awesome, other people say it doesn't do anything.

I'd search the grow journals over at rollitup and see if someone else had success using the same technique with the same strain your growing and the same medium your growing in.

edit: They don't do this during the last 2 weeks, they do it during the last 48 hours right before chopping. If you do it too soon you may cause your plant to hermi.

ask at icmag or rollitup, those boys'll set you straight ;)

while many of us here on BL's CD board are growers, CD isnt really a place to come for decent growing advice unfortunately :/

I would just stay on a 12/12 pattern honestly.

If for some reason your plants got stuck in the dark on accident for 48 hours, well it happens, even on purpose apparently...so don't worry.

hopefully you haven't thrown your flowering plants out ......haha pretty sure you didnt.

SmokeTrails, I wouldn't do it on purpose, Id think the plant could go into shock, most likely it wont, depending on size, health, grow medium, nutrients, lights etc etc etc.....but the alleged THC increase seems negligible when you weigh the benefit to risk..

seems like alot of folk seem to think it doesn't help much if at all

Yeah it shouldn't be too big of a deal, I've had a small crop lose power for 60-70 hours at 4 weeks flowering and the harvest came out fine, at most a very insignificant difference. This is not as ideal of a time however, as a decent amount of resin heads (ie. THC) are developed in the final 2 weeks.
