Question about Depakote

I am currently taking 150mg of Effexor and 400mg, 3 times a day of Neurontin for anxiety. My neurologist gave me Depakote to take for headaches (after topomax and inderal didn't work).

To make a long story short, I have just started back on the Effexor 3 weeks ago because my Paxil seemed to stop working. Then, I started the Depakote about 2 weeks ago.

About 3 days ago, I started to notice my anxiety level going up out of no where. At first, I was thinking it was the Effexor (although I have taken effexor in the past and it didn't have this effect on me). Then, I realized that it could be the Depakote. Although my Dr only started me on 250mg a day (which is a low dose) is it possible that I am experiencing high anxiety from this Depakote stuff? I feel like my skin is crawling!

I stopped taking the Depakote today to see if this helps. How long does it take to get this stuff out of my system? Has anyone else experienced this? I hate starting new medications around the same time. Now, I don't know what is causing this. grrrrr

The side effect list of both effexor and depakote are obscene, and both lists report severe anxiety and panic attacks as being common. Speak with your doctor about your condition.

Yes depakote can be a nasty med but i don't know how common of a side effect anxiety is. If anything it tends to make people abit drowsy. I didnt notice any major side effects except that the dose i was on wasent working :X .

Effexor can cause bad anxiety and it's a kind of stimulating anti-depressant for most people so that could be the cause.

Just remember that no 2 people experience the same effects from these meds or the same side effects. It could very well be the depakote causing this because everyone reacts different. Talk to you doctor about it is what i would say.

Thanks everyone. I am now off the Depakote and the neurologist switched me to Verapamil for my headaches. This will be the 4th medication they have given me for my chronic daily headaches. So far it's not working; however, it's only day 2.

The verapamil finally started working pretty good. Now, instead of getting 3 headaches a day, I only get one. I switched my anti-depressant to Pristiq. It's working pretty well.

Well, I've always suffered from chronic headaches. I now take verapamil for it, which brings me down to about one headache a day.
