question about demerol

hi everyone. Listen, as ive posted before ive been taking percs. 7.5's now for about 6 months. well recently my back went out again and i went to the ER, it had also been about 5 days since id taken any perks. i was out. so i get a shot of demerol and all it did was give me a headach.
Now im just curious as to why, cause ive had demerol shots befor but they were in IV form not just a shot in the shoulder. and even the last time i was in the ER I had had about 4 percocets THAT day. so im wonderin why it didnt work for me. at first I just thought that I had built up some fuckin high ass tollorence to pain meds but geez.
Any thoughts out there? Thanks All

It could be a couple of things.
I do think your tolerance (and there is a definitely cross tolerance between oxycodone (percocet) and demerol)explains much of it.
The IV vs IM also makes a difference --- there is not gonna be any kind of 'rush' with IM demerol, and it won't produce nearly as intense of an effect overall.
I think it is quite likely that the dosage/concentration of the demerol was different, so of course you got less of an effect. Furthermore, it is possible that there was another drug (it could be recreational or could not be) in the solution as well, but it did not contribute as much to overall effects, so they didn't mention to you that it was in the shot as well. Depending on the extra drug(s) in the shot, the effects would be altered in some way.
Did the demerol work well in terms of it's pain-killing ability? Did it work more or less well than it did other times, in reducing pain?
 
actually fairnymph. the shot pretty much just made my arm hurt along with the headach, and the back pain slightly went down. but not as much as i would have hoped for. ususally when by back hurts that bad 3 or 4 percs will usually do the trick. I more or less just felt dizzy with a real back headach.
what pissed me off is within 10 min after the shot they released me cause they needed the room i was in, and gave no instructions at all. I didnt mind though since id been in that situtation before, but it still kind of made me angry. they didnt even ask me if i had a ride home(which i didnt) and they gave me the boot.
