I recently got a temporary script for xanax from a new doctor I was seeing. He'not psychiatrist but prescribed it to me because I had a really stressful situation and my normal anxiety was just getting out of control. I've been hesitant about asking any doctors for a permanent script because I know the negative repercussions of addiction and generally have a tendency to abuse the crap out of anything I get my hands on, but it seems to be one of the only drugs I don't abuse and I've been noticing that it helps a lot with the negative feelings I deal with on a day to day basis (I'm generally just constantly worried and stressed out about everything and it often leads me to do a lot of stupid shit and act in ways I wind up regretting). I want to approach my general physician about getting a permanent script and am wondering what the best way to go about it is and if you guys think it's a wise idea.

just dont even mention the xanax to ur doctor who is giving u it, unless he brings it up, if he asks just tell him it is working well when u have tough moments. dont ask for permanency, he will than see a dependency develop. just be calm, if ur due for ur script, call the office and say u need a refill, or tell him your due for a refill. dont ask to STAY ON IT. just give the impression ur already on it indefinetly as he gave u it..trust me, he will approach u if he dont wanna continue, bringing it up raises red flags to them. trust me. dont say nothing. when ur due for ur RX, call it in, or if u see him, tell him ur due for a refill

The doc who gave me the script was a gynecologist, he said that he was comfortable giving it to me only once and if I felt that I needed a more permanent solution to go to my regular doctor.

Well there is your answer then. Go to your regular doctor and truthfully explain the situation. Just tell him what your symptoms are and that you found that the Xanax helped, and let him decide what he recommends or wants to prescribe from there. We aren't here to help you manipulate your doctor, the best idea is to be honest and talk about your symptoms, not go in and basically say "I'd like a lifetime supply of Xanax please". It's ok to mention what you have tried (legally) that has helped or not helped, but leave it up to the doctor to decide what to prescribe.

benzos can be a life saver if used therapeutically, it's like opiates for pain patients. without it they suffer enourmous pain benos are the same for anxiety.. be honest with your psychiatrist, emphasise the good it does on a day to day basiss for your anxiety, bt also be honest about your ferar of abuse annd addiction... i think thats the best way to go about it

go to ur primary and mention that the specialist gave you a supply of xanax for your anxiety and he insisted you talk to your primary, and just mention that, and just ask if it's possible if he can work with you with your anxiety issues and the medicine the specialist gave you a trial run on. im pretty sure ur primary wont have a problem, its the younger crowd where primary doctors are dick heads and always say "see a shrink"". im 26 and i found a GREAT primary doc, my 1st appt, i told him i used to be on xanax, so he gave me 3x a day .5mg, and i told him i used to be on adderall, he asked the dose, and gave me it, and he even gave me a 90 day supply of both. 270 xanax, and 90 adderall xr 30mg. i began to get greedy, i went to his office 2 month early on my xanax and said it got stolen, so he suggested i just go on Klonopin 2mg AM, 2mg PM, and kept the adderall the same however he questioned if i got anxiety why be on a stimulant, but still let me ride. i told him i had knee pain, he actually gave me a buprenorphine patch for pain! and im 26, this doctor KNEW i was an opiate addict, failed 2 tests there, told him i went on suboxone, still gave me kpins and adderall, eventually, he lost my trust, stopped the adderall, knocked me to klonopin 3mg a day, then to 2mg a day, then when he kicked me out he only have me 25 0.5mg to taper. he WAS A GREAT doctor, didnt judge me by age, or addiction, gave me the benefit of the doubt.. but i can only blame myself. stay positive man cause many doctors out there prefer giving benzos for anxiety rather SSRI's. i've had a doctor for every problem i had he told me "go to that specialist for that" go to that doctor for that problem, i was like WTF? its funny, the two doctors i had were getting there own practice, and they were leaving this one practice, and when i seen this doctor, i REALLY think he was selling himself to transfer to his practice, cuz he increased my xanax without telling me, offered lortab for a toothache, gave me adderall twice a day, its like whateve ri asked for he threw at me. but when they finally got to there new practice they got stricter..its funny how doctors reel patients in to make money. sorry im rambling and going off topic. dont lose hope, benzos are the MOST commonly RXed drug in the USA
