Heroin Question about avoiding a habit

Hey everyone. So I was addicted to heroin for about 6 months. I had to use a few times a day, everyday. I finally kicked the addiction after spending some time in jail. But, all I think about is using. So..I know some of you think it is stupid of me to use, after kicking it. But I am going to, regardless. I actually got a little yesterday and did it all. And I am fine today. But next week I am getting 2 or 3 grams, and plan to use every now and then, and make what I get last for a while. But what I need to know is, how long do you have to use to become physically addicted...how many days. Should I use one day, then wait like 3 days? Or can I use 2 or 3 days in a row, and then stop without feeling sick? This may seem like a silly question...but I really wanna know.

You have already developed a physical addiction to heroin, using it again at all is a game of roulette. "Chipping" can be done, but often leads to full blown relapse. If you intend on using, use on special occassions or as needed, and not with any frequency.

It will be extremely difficult to sit of 2-3 grams and use it sparingly. In my experience, using any more than 2 times a week will cause you to experience withdrawals when you stop. If you are using 3 times a week, you may think that you aren't strung out since it may take 2-3 days to start feeling sick, and since you are using more frequent than that you won't know that you have a habit until you stop completely again.

Yeah I really wouldn't try to sit on an amount like that. It's really easy to make bad decisions and justify using more frequently especially when it's right in front of you... but maybe I just don't have enough self control lol. I usually don't pick up more then 3 bags just for that reason, even if it is a lot more cost efficient to get more.

I really would try to avoid using more than once a week if you're able to. Hope you're able to make it work out and don't end up back in the same situation as before. Harder than it seems bro, at least it is for me... Good luck

I think your post is more of an attempt to communicate your sufferings with this community than it is advice-seeking. I don't mean to sound fatalist, but I feel like this kind of thing has always been a never-ending struggle. I can never use just in moderation for but so long, and resources only take me so far when I'm really using. I try to pepper in breaks from this or that throughout my year....

Desire is this monstrous, endless cycle. The best you can do is set your mind toward positive, healthy lifestyle decisions. Finding meaning and purpose in small things through intentional living, meditation, etc. has really helped me distance myself from clinging and get closer to happiness, but the craving still comes back, and I don't stay clean very long. I feel like this is also will-related. Sometimes we know that we can make this or that choice that will be benificial for our lives, but at the same time it is a sharp departure from the more destructive lifestyle we have maintained up to this point. I think we are afraid of taking the chance, because maybe we think that nothing can really end our suffering; quelch our thirst.

I'm not a religious spokesperson, and I disapprove of AA/NA in most cases...those are religions and addictions in their own right(s). I just want to get that out of the way. We are all posting here because, most basically, we identify with the other people that belong to this community. I like presenting this perspective twd addiction/drug use, but I want to share and see what the others think.

I mean to say, it has never mattered for me what I stash away, I just end up pushing up my tolerance and furthering a habit...I think I need to try harder, and stay determined to try hard, etc. Maybe enjoy what you have left and then find a hobby?

junkie lore says "welcome to habitsville".
the only way this could possibly work (in my experience and that of countless users before me) is if someone else hangs onto your stash, and doles it out accordingly, strictly. if you'd never had a habit before, you might be able to do it...
don't think willpower can beat your jones when you have 2 or 3 grams stashed away. don't mean to sound fatalistic, but it's the way it goes.

The neural pathways in your brain are seared flesh - your body now recognizes opioids as its new best friend. You were addicted and you still are an addict tho' you may not be currently using. When you are not using you have arrested your disease. But the disease of addiction is predictable, if nothing else: it is not curable, it is progressive, and it is fatal if untreated. I mention "progression" because that is what happens when your drug use increases, or "progresses" - Fridays become Thursdays and Mondays become Tuesdays. You might be able to do the "every once in awhile thang" for awhile, but you will be back addicted. It is simply a matter of time.

I tell you this not to be unkind, but to help you realize the position that you are in. Can you use ever use "successfully?" In the end, no.

Besides all that mess, to answer your question, IMO how often YOU, Ms. Poppy, can use and avoid w/d? I would say a half gram once a week, so, two shots, e.g. Saturday morning at 6 AM, then Saturday afternoon around 2 PM. And that is IT until next Saturday. You obviously could get by with pushing it a little, but then...there you go, you are off...and hooked again.

See, I usta do a little but a little wouldn't do it so the little got more and more...

I'd know what would happen if I had several grams sitting around...

The only way I can see chipping working is to only ever buy enough for a single evening and only treat yourself once or twice a year, after you've accomplished something really noteworthy.

My tries at chipping always ended in binges several weeks long, you should know best yourself of course, but those are my 2 cents.

Poppy, it's already been said but you're playing with fire. Your brain will never forget what Heroin is, or what to with it, and tolerance and addiction will restablish themselves very quickly. Use for 2 to 3 days and you could easily be back into withdrawal territory. Use for more than that and you may as well not have come off in the first place. If you had to go to jail to get off last time why risk it?

If you must chip use for no more than a day at a time giving yourself at least 4 days between each use to give your body chance to fully eliminate it and recover. Using any more frequently than that could keep you just on the edge of a habit and one will creep up on you almost at unawares. You're gonna have to be very disciplined and self-controlled. You lost control to the point of developing a habit back when you would have actually needed to work at acquiring one. What makes you think you'll be any better at it this time with a massive stash of H in front of you when reacquiring a habit is so easy?

I just can't imagine even wanting to use heroin once a week, or once every three days. For me, heroin is just one of those drugs where once I get started, I just basically ride it out until I crash and get burned. I think I'd rather be physically Dependant than have to torment myself by using only once every three days, especially if I had a few grams at my disposal. Good luck though..
