Question about atenolol

I'm trying to kick a mean dope habit I've had for 4 months or so, and I've heard of clonadine helping the w/d's. I, however, do not have access to clonadine, but do have access to atenolol.

I've tried searching through bluelight and google for advice to whether or not atenolol helps ease withdrawal in a similar way as clonadine, but I have been unable to find such information.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Would/does atenolol help ease opioid withdrawal?

If by some miracle it does help in a similar way as clonadine, how much would one suggest taking? I do not have high blood pressure, & am about 140-150 lbs (~66kg for those metric users out there)

It's not the same thing at all unfortunately. Clonidine is a centrally acting alpha2 agonist, whereas atenolol is a beta1 antagonist. Atenolol is used to block beta1 receptors (which are essentially limited to the heart) from circulating (nor)adrenaline, whereas clonidine is tricking the brain into thinking levels of (nor)adrenaline in the blood is too high, thereby decreasing release of NA to ALL areas (heart, blood vessels, etc).
Translation: atenolol will only slow down the heart rate, whereas clonidine will help with changes in blood pressure, heart rate, etc
 
Atenolol is a beta blocker if my memory serves me correctly. Its not going to work the same way as clonidine. The only thing it might do is decrease your blood pressure, thus reducing anxiety and help you sleep.
 
Clonidine isn't really that helpful anyway. Withdrawal is hard, and there is no way to get around that. What it really comes down to is: is getting clean worth it?
 
get prescribed suboxone by a local doctor. it's not hard AT ALL. subs are take away 97% of the withdrawal pain. it makes coming off a dope kinda worth it, it's so much easier. all you have to do is tell them you're coming off of dope and that you wanna quit. i don't know how much a script costs, mine was free, but it can't be more expensive than a habit.
