QLD Floods

^ That sux.

This is the worst weather I've seen in Brisbane in the 10 years I've been here. Rain every single day and it doesn't look like stopping. Hell, I'm picking we're at the beginning of the apocalypse!!!
Floods right through QLD, birds falling out of the sky in the US and Italy, mass fish deaths in the millions throughout the world, and bloody locusts in the BILLIONS eating up Australia.

The animals are lining up two by two and I'm looking to follow suit. This rain is driving me stir crazy!!!

ironicly enough just last month i was actualy wishing a flood would come and wash the majority of society out and away:|

Still raining heavy here, no evacuation orders yet, but were swimming and many roads closed, Poor fuckers in towoomba but... that shit was hectic!

Most of my family are in Queensland (blood relatives and friends), and i have been keeping a close eye on the news - apparently the Brisbane River Banks have broken, city streets are closed and the peak is due on Thursday... I have seen photos of the 1974 floods in Brisbane that my parents took... to everyone living near the river, I hope you keep safe and your houses are spared :(

Everyone in the city has gone home. We had to stay behind a bit, due to the nature of work I am in, however as soon as we could we were out. The ferry terminals and boardwalks along the river are under, at least on the South Bank side that I saw.

People are going crazy in the city, people were lining up for trains and buses. I live close by so it wasn't too bad for me, and luckily my house is just out of the flood range.

I live in Kangaroo Point and have been watching pontoons and full size trees zipping down the river. Crazy!!!

Lucky my business I evacuated and my unit is high enough to not be too worried. However heart goes out to those in strife. Have moved two units upstairs this arvo.

Otherwise, have stoked up on beer, water, food, and bbq gas. Will be an interesting party!

^ Yeah I am thinking of going out to grab some beer and other stockpiles. Not sure if I will be going to work tomorrow... hopefully not though. :)

We should have a QLD Floods Disaster thread, no?

Heh, predictions are beyond 74 now apparently. Going by the bcc flood zone maps I'm a street away (pretty close actually) from being flooded.

Were these maps based on what happened in 74? Getting important stuff together just in case, hoping it will be a false alarm. Not looking good based on the creek near home though. Good luck to everyone hope you're all safe.

EDIT : That sounded too grim. It will all be ok, just not used to this sort of freak weather!

^ One end of my street is a flood area, the other is an 'overland flow path'.

I'm guessing the maps are based on '74 and predictions based on the tributaries, creeks, etc... and their threshold levels.

Power is being shut off in the city from 7am tomorrow morning and inner city suburbs will lose power at 11pm tonight apparently.

Not sure, I'm guessing places like Spring Hill, Fortidude Valley, New Farm, Milton, South Brisbane, Woolloongabba maybe. I'm in those last two suburbs, so I'm anticipating it being cut off. :\

Flood maps are based on a predicted high that occurs once every 100 years. Don't know much about Brisbane so don't know if the '74 flood qualified for that (assumedly it did though).

My house got flooded (about 2 feet through the whole thing) when I lived on the Central Coast a few years ago (the floods in Central Coast/Newcastle when the Pasha Bulker was stranded off Nobby's Beach) and that was a hundred year flood.

I'm guessing this is a 100 year flood as well... it's the worst in 118 years or something apparently?

100,00 homes and businesses having power shut off as of 7 am tomorrow. Yay.

Ok I'm a wee bit further out, hoping the power stays on until tomorrow at least. Thanks. :)

^ It's amazing the amounts of water involved!

The pictures and videos from Toowoomba have been crazy, and seeing the river today in the city... wish I had my camera!

They should be saving it now for the next El Nino event when water restrictions hit again :)

Hope everyone's alright and good luck to all of you in Brisbane!
