I tried some over the weekend. I didn't see the big wow. Got nice little buzz but no where near the euphoric high that I experienced with Vicodin, Percocet and Tramadol. Is Purple Drank more hype than anything?

I could be wrong, but I think majority of people who use it are inexperienced opiate users. They haven't used oxycodone, opana, etc. so for them the high is just fine.

Yeah its codeine(surprised this has not been mentioned yet). Idk about the standard dose of codeine in one "Purple Drank", but its probably not too crazily high, maybe a couple hundred mg. Consider codeine is 1/10th the strength of oxycodone, it takes a good amount to get a tolerant user high. Of course the promethazine in the syrup also produces effects that apparently synergize well with the codeine. Oh and don't forget the Jolly Ranchers.

I live in houston texas for 2 years or so and purple drank is definately more fad than anything, its kinda like a luxury drug thats rediculously overpriced (think hundreds of $ for a 12 oz bottle) thats sipped on slowly for its good taste. Also the whole chopped and screwed rap scene REALLY sparked the whole codeine scene. I should also mention that precription opioids are EXTREMELY abundant in the south (which is typically where most of the whole sizzurp scene originates from) so its not like the people drinking syrup are as unexposed to stronger narcotics. However sizzurp can also reffer to tussionex which is a hydrocodone based syrup and I could see that shit being pretty nice. One last thing that should as well be mentioned is that people with enzyme deficiences may very well metabolize more codeine to morphine thus recieving decent highs from codeine.
