Purifying Adderall

I read a great FAQ on bluelight about speed. Part of it talked about using alcohol and acetone to purify and crystallize it. I was wondering if this is possible to do with adderall?

And please refrain from the usual "why would you want to purify it, just pop the damn pills" as such comments will be ignored. Thanks.

Also are you trying to purify it to D-Amp or L-Amp?

Levo-Amp is considered equal to D-Amp at least in Dopamine receptor affinity, as for its effect on Nor-Ep, I think D-Amp is stronger but not incredibly so.
 
Pharmaceutical products are already pure. Do you mean separating the d and l isomers? Or separating all the actives from the inactives?

The question isn't clear at all.
 
I've purified Adderall before using a syringe filter and gotten pretty good results. I crushed a 20mg orange-colored generic and disolved it in 1-2 mL of pure water, then filtered the solution through a 0.22 micron filter. The solution in the syringe was completely clear, not even slightly orange.
This might be a good starting point for what you want to do.

No, l-amphetamine has vastly reduced efficacy and affinity at the dopamine transporter. No matter: kitchen chemists lack the means to separate stereo-isomers.

For the most part, the solubility properties of amphetamine are similar to those of methamphetamine, so acetone washes and alcohol extractions should remain effective. However, pill preparations present a greater mass and wider variety of impurities, so the extraction might not be as effective.

Yes, it's the inactives i would like to get rid of.

Sorry for the mix up, i read that with speed you could gently boil it in acetone, add a little alcohol, and cool to form crystals. I was wondering if the results would be the same using adderall. Hopefully that clears things up. Sorry about that.
 
Extracting amphetamine sulphate out of pills is somtheting you have to do on a large scale before it becomes worthwhile.

The quick and dirty method would be to dissolve in boiling water, cool it down, filter off the pill gunk, and evaporate to a paste/sludge/powder of crude amph-so4. A better method is to do this and them proceed to an acid/base extraction.

Pill binders and fillers can have Log P's all over the map and solvent extractions would really depend on how the pills are formulated. I have a feeling the extraction method you're reading about is for street amph/"base" and not pharmaceuticals with <%5 amph by weight.

edit, there's no way you'll extract a good yield from pills by doing a simple acetone wash or anything so scratch that off your list.
