My favourite era of NOFX is definitely with Steve Kidwiller so...albums

'Ribbed' ...
Man he was laying down some thrash solos, really awsome, great riffs, New Boobs is awsome, don't get me wrong I love El Hefe, 'The Death of John Smith' of their Longest Line LP is one of the tightest punk tunes out there. I can't believe Smelly does what he does on a single kick pedal...just great....

...and being Canadian myself the song about Teegan and Sara is hilarious...
Great songs on that compilation disc there, of stuff that didn't make it to their albums...uh...uh...jeeze? It's got their cover of 'Vincent' on it...:45 or 46 Songs That Weren't Good Enough to Go on Our Other Records'..... Great tunes, 'Pimps and Hookers' with that wah wah....
Plus it has their cover of 'Last Caress' on there , love that tune, any version of it... I've seen NOFX live so many times, really fun shows...
The Misfits, any era, I love the two albums with Michale Graves on vocals...
'Saturday Night' off Famous Monsters, great old 50's early 60's progression , a love song talking about killing your significant other, pretty awsome.... And I don't need to say much about the Danzig era..... 'MOMMY? CAN I GO OUT KILLING TONIGHT!?!?' .... Just classic...

88 Fingers Louie. - Behind Bars , I've listened to on repeat so many times....and 'Back on the Street' bith great albums ...'Worst Man Won'... with the Joe Pesci in 'Casino' intro, pretty intense....

And I'm not sure if this should be here, but I've seen these guys live twice..

bloody amazing, and I was graced to see them live the last time for free.... at NXNE Yonge Dundas Square......just unreal.....I think it was the Raw Power line up too, before the one Ashton died..
....the first time was at Massey Hall, people were jumping off the first balcony onto the stage to get up there with Iggy.....he came out and stage dived right off the stage into a seated venue, was great....

Anyways , there's lots more....I will add.. As time goes on...

i've been lucky to see the line-up with Ron Asheton on guitar (approximately the line-up for the first self album and Fun House) , as well as the David Williamson line-up (the raw power line up), after Ron passed away.
fucking brilliant. Iggy is a machine.


i'm a really huge fan of this band, the Only Ones. not stereotypical 'punk', but a truly brilliant band from that era.
singer and songwriter peter perrett has one of the best voices in rock'n'roll (to my ear - it's an unorthodox voice) and writes brilliant songs. this is their best known single -


he's had a well-known struggle with addiction to heroin, coke and other drugs, which contributed to the band not being a commercial success - but he's just released a new solo record, and it's fucking incredible.

i posted this in EADD earlier, but what the hell - i'll post it here too :)

I did see the Raw Power lineup at NXNE, free show, Yonge and Dundas Square, I don't think the mayor of Toronto knew who the STOOGES were because they let this free show happen and like 5000+ people showed up, it took me 30 min to get out of the pit and out of the crowd, just Punks as far as the eye can see, down every Street leading out of the square, it was amazing.... I was right up front...it was great, about three rows of people, then the pit, I was in the pit...Iggy's sweat got on me for bleedin sake....awsome
....I lost my shoe in the pit, and I thought 'ah fuck it, I'll never see it again, so I was slam dancing around with one shoe on, my foot got brutalised... But....but....
...hold on....., about 20 minutes later...I landed on something,.... I looked down, and it was my shoe....oh thank heavens , I thought, as it was my only pair of shoes, I got enough strength to get down there, pretty hard when you're surrounded by a mosh pit, with the pressure of 5000+ people on it, and grabbed it up, but there was to much pressure, to put it back on, so I just held it up in the air, and slam danced the rest of the concert.....it was awsome. There were friends of mine there who I didn't know were going, I didn't go with them, and when they talked to me about the show, they said they saw this guy right up front just holding a shoe in the air....ha....i said that was me....it was great.... And Iggy saw me, with the shoe, gave a good smile to me, and continued to rock it on stage, it was really awsome

About The Misfits....I was being facetious....All Hell Breaks Loose is an amazing song (made even better by Sick Of It All), but The Misfits and The Ramones these days have the highest amount of poseurs wearing their shirts. Walks Amongst Us is a great album. I can't take the Misfits without Danzig seriously though, especially since it's been about 15 years nobody from the original line-up is there and they overdress silly like if they were a black metal band in Norway.

Speaking of Sick of it All, that song makes me wanna rip out my home like Chuck in Better Call Saul :



That circle pit inducing riff when things pick up speed near the end, goddamn. All the new kids never ever came close when it comes to NYHC. SOIA also has a lot of oi/punk songs, I like how diverse they can be.

And about unorthodox voice...Jello Biafra will never be imitated, it did inspire Serj from System of a Down strangely enough. The crazy clown kind of voice, if another punk band came up with that they would be really hated, especially the singer. I mean, when The Offspring was legit (until 97 and then even until the drummer left, so the 2 following albums, take out the hits and it's just the same old Offspring with overproduction), you could recognize him right away, same like this dude you just introduced me to, unique indeed. There's guys like that who can't be thrown into "generic" vocals-wise, from Ray Cappo (Youth of Today) to Greg Graffin (especially in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th albums of theirs, where the harmonies made with him and the other writer Brett was a kind of voice of its own when sang as one) and so many others. One guy I love who's voice is like no other is Choke (Negative FX/Slapshot) singer/songwriter. When they covered C is For Cookie mocking his own voice I couldn't stop laughing, it's hidden at the end of Digital Warfare.

Jerry Only is still in the Misfits, he is an original member....
....and I think Glenn Danzig actually is back with them if I'm not mistaken....
I don't think they play anything from American Psycho or Famous Monsters live though with Danzig back...

...and Doyle was an original roadie, Danzig actually taught him how to play the guitar, and joined as the guitar player of The Misfits in 1980....

....I enjoy both era's
 
Actually Dave Lombardo from Slayer is the drummer in the Misfits now....
...not that I'm a huge Slayer fan, but that guy can play the drums for sure...

Death by Stereo some good heavy stuff, and Ensign some good hardcore...

Seriously? What a waste of talent for Lombardo, there's a some classic thrash bands where a change in drummer would be welcome...Flotsam & Jetsam is the first I can think of. Massive fan of Slayer and thrash metal in general since my brain detects the hardcore punk fused into the genre. Gorilla Biscuits 2 LP's...especially the second basically inventing melodic hardcore on the east coast (Bad Religion was doing it on the west coast) awesome classic stuff. "Competition"'s chorus just came up in my mind hah.

88 Fingers Louie reunited (well, too bad Joe on bass didn't come back for it and remained fully in Rise Against, he was one big chunk of 88fl) and made a new album...the guy's voice changed with age but it's really good, called "Thank You For Being A Friend".
 
Yea..I found it pretty weird he would join The Misfits...
And I like thrash metal specifically for that reason too, it's got that fast Punk beat, that distinct single, double, on the kick.. Instead of just straight double kick all the time....

I really like 88 Fingers Louie, but I never got into Rise Against, even when Joe was still in the band, I think it's just Mr Precision now, right? I've never looked to much into them... I was excited to hear about them, considering the 88fingers connection and was waiting to hear new stuff from the 2 , but I never got into them, didn't suck me in...

But 88 Fingers Louie is freaking great...

Yeah, they were great. Part of the awesome early 80's LA hardcore scene. Black Flag, Negative Approach, Circle Jerks...good times.
