I'll raise my hand as one of the early people....if I'm meeting someone somewhere at a specific time I'll always try and get there early, just in case something happens on the way that would delay me....which means by the time they get there I've been waiting 10 or 15 minutes already and that's assuming they're on time! :D
My general rule is I refuse to wait more than 15 minutes for someone beyond the time we agreed on. Obviously if someone rings me or texts me with a reason I'll be cool with it, but nothing shits me more* than people who just don't have the plain consideration to a.)be on time or b.)let me know they're gonna be late.
I actually have a friend in Melbourne whom I refuse to meet anywhere alone anymore unless I know I've got some way to keep myself amused till he gets there, because he is never less than half an hour late....
*As SLM said, the only thing that shits me more is people walking off in the middle of an argument which has prompted me once to shout at the top of my lungs in a crowded call centre, "Don't turn your back on me you fucking bitch!!" to my manager at the time. do de doo....

It's not that i dont try though, and i'm not always late but i am the majority of the time. I do however always tell the person in advance if i'm going to be running any thing over 10-15 minutes.

Just what is it with people who have no concept of time?
I am truly interested to know. If you say to someone - for example in a work context - "I'll get back to you by 11am on that", what is going through your head at 11.25am when you still haven't?
Have you realised it's past 11 at all? Do you not think that particular time holds that much importance for the person you promised it to? Do you justify it somehow in your mind that your 'unique' circumstances make it allowable? What?
It's been happening to me so much lately. I'm currently waiting on feedback on a press release which was meant to be printed last night, I gave another deadline of 11am this morning and it's now 11.25... not even a courtesy call. Last week a photographer took four days to get product shots back to me when he'd promised to have them done in a day... and it took ME calling HIM to find out where they were. I have a million photographers I could use; he's fully aware of that.
I constantly have people turning up late for appointments.
Call me pedantic, but I just can't fathom why people don't/can't keep time promises!

Ugh, I posted about this in SLR maybe 6 months ago. I have a friend who is ALWAYS late - or she cancels, but she does it after she's already late. And I don't mean 10 minutes late, but up to 3 hours late. For EVERYTHING. And she never calls to let anyone know that she's running late.
I used to have a problem with being late, but I think it was taught to me. My mum is always late as well, or she just doesn't turn up at all. And I'm talking about being late for important things, like being 2 hours late picking my 16 year old sister up from work in the middle of the night when she's by herself, or the fact that when I got married she made my dress and it was still in several pieces on the kitchen table on the morning of the wedding. She always slept through her alarm and made us late for school every morning and is always much later (I'm talking like 7 hours) coming home than she says she will be. That sort of thing.
Anyway, I'm not late much anymore - I think it's partly because being home most of the time makes me so desperate to get out of the house that I'm always early for appointments
But I used to be late for all kinds of things, I had to really concentrate on not doing that.
I don't understand with these people that are always half an hour or so late.. why not just get going half an hour earlier? Get up half an hour earlier, have a shower half an hour earlier, leave the house half an hour earlier. I mean, it's not brain surgery. If you're always late for things, just change your routine to allow for that "lateness".
Of course, you can tell that some people don't even realise that they're late (my mum is like that). Some people seem to be so wrapped up in their own stress and how "busy" they are that they just don't even remember half of the things they're supposed to be doing. I mean, I remember being in Reception/Prep. and mum picking me up from After School Care an hour late because she "forgot what the time was". I guess it's just in her personality.
That was a lot of rambling. Just the idea of people being absurdly late makes me angry.

when someone says they'll be over at 7 o'clock i'm ready on time.
i've got excited about their impending arrival. i have pre-thouhgt some funny stories or news to share. i've got a bottle of wine open and the CD player rolling. the later they are the lesser my mood gets. i may even start the drinking without them. sometimes i might have only enough gunja for one tasty hooter and if theyre too late i may have even smoked it!
i hate lateness. and i find it an insult when people let me down in this way.

I'll often start preparing/planning parties mid-afternoon :D, 5 minutes before people's arrival time I'm dressed and nailpolished and perfumed, drugs organised, wine glasses chilling... my mood peaks, and dips by 10% every 15 mintues after that, until when they finally arrive I'm a grumpy jaded (and often drunk) mess.
What's even funnier is when I turn up to someone's house (at the time I said I would) and they're still in the shower, or eating dinner, or are down at the shop buying alcohol. (who does this???)

Oh and I had very similar experiences to anna!. My mum was always late. She once left my brother waiting outside his primary school for four and a half hours because 'she got caught up at work' [NB: She's a school teacher so her day would have technically finished the same time my brother's did.] She would also 'duck into the shops' for 3 hours and leave us sitting in the car because she had run into someone she knew and got caught in conversation.
She taught me patience [people can be as late as they like and it doesn't bother me now] but she also taught me a complete disrespect for time.

^ Oh God, the shops! Dad and I used to go back to the car to meet mum at the time she'd said, and we would seriously wait for 3 hours in the carpark while she "just finished up her shopping".
My nanna (her mum) is the same. Gramps has listened to entire footy matches sitting in the car, waiting for her to lock up the house.

I hate being late for things, and therefore have high expectations of other peoples adhearing to dates, appointments etc.
It is probably the one thing that will dirve me crazy about a person, everything else I can deal with.

In a work situation it bothers me incredibly - especially when it means you can't call back an agro customer cos you are waiting on information from another department or something like that.
It's not a huge issue for me with friends, unless they do it regularly with no apology and never call to let you know what's doing.

If I invite friends over for drinks, or dinner, or to meet me before we go out, I am ready and waiting 10 mins before the scheduled time just in case they are early! It really pisses me off when people are late!
Like the other night, I was driving my flatmates to go out for dinner for another friends birthday... I told them that we needed to leave at 6.30 to get there by 7. So I'm all ready... sitting in the loungeroom waiting... and they don't emerge until 7!!! We don't end up getting to the restaurant til almost 8pm, by which time I am starving, but we can't order yet, because the rest of the crew hasn't showed up yet! And we were meant to meet there at 7!!!!!! argh!!!! infuriating!!!!!

It's very rude to keep people waiting, I think. If I can't give a precise time, I give a bracket of 30 - 45 minutes within which I'll be there. I expect the same from others, especially at work.
