Jules: Hey kids! How you boys doin'?
[to man laying on the couch]
Jules: Hey, keep chillin'. You know who we are? We're associates of your business partner Marsellus Wallace. You do remember your business partner don't you? Let me take a wild guess here. You're Brett, right?
Brett: Yeah.
Jules: I thought so. You remember your business partner Marsellus Wallace, don't you, Brett?
Brett: Yeah, yeah, I remember him.
Jules: Good. Looks like me an Vincent caught you boys at breakfast. Sorry about that. Whatcha havin'?
Brett: Hamburgers.
Jules: Hamburgers! The cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast. What kind of hamburgers?
Brett: Ch-cheeseburgers.
Jules: No, no no, where'd you get 'em? McDonalds? Wendy's? Jack in the Box? Where?
Brett: Big Kahuna Burger.
Jules: Big Kahuna Burger. That's that Hawaiian burger joint. I hear they got some tasty burgers. I ain't never had one myself. How are they?
Brett: They're good.
Jules: Mind if I try one of yours? This is yours here, right?
[Picks up burger and takes a bite]
Jules: Mmm-mmmm. That is a tasty burger. Vincent, ever have a Big Kahuna Burger?
[Vincent shakes his head]
Jules: Wanna bite? They're real tasty.
Vincent: Ain't hungry.
Jules: Well, if you like burgers give 'em a try sometime. I can't usually get 'em myself because my girlfriend's a vegitarian which pretty much makes me a vegitarian. But I do love the taste of a good burger. Mm-mm-mm. You know what they call a Quarter Pounder with cheese in France?
Brett: No.
Jules: Tell 'em, Vincent.
Vincent: A Royale with cheese.
Jules: A Royale with cheese! You know why they call it that?
Brett: Because of the metric system?
Jules: Check out the big brain on Brett! You're a smart motherfucker. That's right. The metric system. What's in this?
Brett: Sprite.
Jules: Sprite, good. You mind if I have some of your tasty beverage to wash this down?
Brett: Go right ahead.
Jules: Ah, hit the spot.

i have to agree with you with this scene. the look on jule's face as he drinks brett's softdrink entirely is chilling to the bone. the complete dominance, and clear inevitable fate displayed in this scene is fuckin intense. the eyes speak more than the words. far more.
the only scene i can think of in another movie that captures this is the dennis hopper/christopher walken scene in true romance.

don't listen to the words. look at the eyes.

those moments, are truely horrific. not even horror genre movies comes close to the sheer terror of those scenes imo.

Jules: Ah, hit the spot

man that is COLD.

to stare, unflinchingly, into someone's eyes for that long letting them know, with no confusion, that their life is about to end....

damn.

it's such an utterly delightful shot which made me laugh very loudly the first few times.

Agreed.

I had a smile on my face when I saw this scene. Actually the whole movie made me smile, but that scene even more so. Of course there were some scenes that were so intense and or fucked up that I stopped smiling temporarily, but nonetheless, I was smiling on the inside.

Best movie evar. :D

Pulp Facts

1. In Reservoir Dogs, Nice Guy Eddie arranges for Mr. Orange (Tim Roth, all shot to pieces) to be treated by a nurse he knows named Bonnie. And, of course, in Pulp Fiction, Jimmy's wife is a nurse named Bonnie.

2. Every time you see a pack of cigarettes, it's the same brand: Red Apple.
Butch smokes "Red Apple" cigarettes. The same brand is smoked by Tim Roth's character in Four Rooms (1995). Red Apple cigarettes appear in all of Tarantino's films.

3. The weapons Butch goes through were all put in by Tarantino as an homage to some of his favorite movies of the past. The bat represents the four by four that Bufford Pusser used in "Walking Tall", the chainsaw was for what Leatherface uses in "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", and the samurai sword was used in general to all old kung-fu movies.

4. Vincent and Jule's discussion in the car about Europe and especially Amsterdam can be linked to Quentin Tarrantino's love for that city. He used to visit Amsterdam a lot and even lived there for awhile. All the stuff Vincent tells Jules about Amsterdam is true by the way.

5. Phil LaMarr, who plays Marvin (the black guy, who gets shot in his face) is actually a member of the "MadTV" cast. Once MadTV had a skit called "Gump Fiction" (a crossover of "Forrest Gump" and "Pulp Fiction" - you gotta see this skit. Very funny.). In this skit he also plays Marvin, fearfully cowering like in the movie.

6. The Statler Brothers song that Bruce Willis was singing along to on the way back to his apartment had a line "smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo". In the movie Die Hard With a Vengeance, there's a scene in which he tells Samuel L. Jackson that he'd rather be home "smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo".

7. Quentin Tarantino must have had a childhood bully by the name of Marvin. In this movie the black guy who gets shot in the face is named Marvin. In Reservoir Dogs, Marvin is the name of the cop Mr. Blonde tortures.

8. Quentin Tarantino originally wanted to cast himself as Lance (Vincent's drug dealer), but eventually cast himself as Jimmie because he wanted to be strictly behind the camera during the scene of Mia's drug overdose.

9. Danny Devito was an executive producer on this film. In Devito's film "Twins", the names of the two main characters were Vincent and Julius.

10. Vincent Vega doesn't have much luck with bathrooms: He emerges from the bathroom at Mia Wallace's place to find her overdosing. He is heavily criticised by Jules in Jimmy's bathroom for soiling the towel. He emerges from the bathroom at the coffee shop to find a robbery is occurring. After he shoots Brett, a guy comes out of the bathroom with a "hand cannon" and tries to shoot him. Finally, he emerges from the bathroom at Butch Coolidge's flat and is shot dead by Butch.

11. Jules' "Bad Motherfucker" wallet actually belongs to Quentin Tarantino. The red convertible also belonged to Quentin, but it was stolen.

12. Quentin Tarantino wrote "The Wolf" character specifically for Harvey Keitel.

13. The Big Kahuna burger brand made its first appearance in "Reservoir Dogs"(1992) when we see Michael Madsen drinking from a cup with its logo.

14. According to the script, Jimmie's last name is Dimmick. This was revealed to be Mr. White's last name in a "Reservoir Dogs" deleted scene.

15. Kind of funny thing to notice. In the end credits, the Coffee Shop Manager is credited as just Coffee Shop. Quentin Tarantino said this was because when Tim Roth puts the gun to his head and says "Are you gonna be a hero?", the manager only says "No, I'm just a Coffee Shop-" before Tim Roth cuts him off and starts yelling again.

16. Harvey Keitel practically repeats his role as Victor the Cleaner from "Point of No Return."

17. Vincent was originally supposed to have shot Marvin twice - once accidentally in the throat, and the second to put him out of his misery; Quentin Tarantino changed it to a single-bullet killing, because he thought it would be funnier.

18. Butch's great-grandfather bought the gold watch in Knoxville, Tennessee and this is also where Butch is meeting his connection. Knoxville is Quentin Tarantino's birthplace.

19. A scene removed from the final cut of the film involves Jules trying to consider what to do while Pumpkin and Honey Bunny are robbing the diner. In the scene, Jules points his gun at the bottom of the table and fires up twice, hitting Pumpkin and killing him. He then spins around and shoots Honey Bunny three times, killing her. As she falls to the floor her gun goes off and hits the long haired Yuppie scum, who dies screaming on the floor. The scene then cuts back to Jules talking to Pumpkin in the diner, revealing the shootings to have happened entirely in Jules' mind

More Pulp Facts

1. The clocks in the pawnshop are set to 4:20. It is a widely acknowledged misconception that all of the clocks in the film are set to this time. Submitted by Cubs Fan

2. The film's producer Lawrence Bender is one of the long-haired yuppies at the coffee shop.

3. The lady that is shot in the street by Marcellus Wallace when he is trying to catch Butch is the very same lady that Mr. Pink pulls out of her car in Reservoir Dogs, another Quentin Tarantino film. Her name is Delorise Baker.

4. When Vincent takes Mia to Lance's house to give her the adrenaline shot, two board games are visible in the background. They are "Operation" and "Life" - appropriate.

5. The cabdriver, Esmeralda Villa Lobos (Angela Jones) appeared in a 30 minute short called Curdled in which she played a character who cleaned up after murders. This makes her fascinated by the idea of murder. Tarantino saw this film and decided to include this character in Pulp Fiction but as a cabdriver.

6. When Vincent and Jules go and "make some time" before they kill the other dudes in the apartment, listen closely when they walk trough the corridor, you can hear a radio announcing Butch's fight.

7. In the scene where Butch is deciding to leave the place with the gimp there is a Killian's Irish Red sign on the right and Tennessee license plates on the left of the set. On the neon sign all of the letters of the sign are burnt out except KILL and ED. Butch can either decide to go to Tennessee and walk out the door on the left or he can go right to the sign that says KILL ZED. The letter Z comes from the keychain he is holding in his hand.

8. Tarantino was originally going to make The Gold Watch story and the story about Vincent and Mia as short films. He planned on using them as a sort of resume, so he could show them around and hope to raise money for filming Reservoir Dogs. He ended up raising enough money for Reservoir Dogs without the short films, and put the scripts away. He took them out later, and decided to use them to make a full length movie. That is when he wrote the story about Jules and Vincent, and realized that all three could be tied together for one film.

9. Tarantino originally wrote the role of Jules specifically for Samuel L. Jackson, however it was almost given to Paul Calderon after a great audition. When Jackson heard this, he flew to LA and re-auditioned, getting back the part he was supposed to play. Calderon ended up with a cameo as Paul, the bartender.

10. When Vince and Mia are going into Jackrabbit Slims, Vince has a good look around. He notices a toy car race going on (the sort where the cars are on a track). The colours of the tracks are blue, pink, white, orange, yellow and brown - the colour-coded aliases the thieves in Reservoir Dogs (Tarantino's debut hit) were assigned (with yellow being Mr. Blonde, obviously).

11. The marquee where Butch boxes advertises "Vossler vs Martinez''. This is a reference to Rand Vossler and Jerry Martinez, two friends of Tarantino's from when he worked in a video store.

12. The Buddy Holly waiter in Jack Rabbit Slims is played by Steve Buscemi who as Mr Pink in Reservoir Dogs, refused to tip waitresses.

13. John Travolta (Vincent) first meets Quentin Tarantino (Jimmy) to discuss his part in the film at Tarantino's L.A. apartment. It was the same apartment in which Travolta once lived as a struggling Hollywood newcomer.

14. More trivia than blooper, but in the opening scene, you can see the bottom half of Vincent on the way to the bathroom while Pumpkin and Honey Bunny are talking, and you can also hear Jules talking.

15. The parts of "Honey Bunny'' and "Pumpkin'' were written specifically for Amanda Plumber and Tim Roth.

16. The guy who comes out of the bathroom is played by Alexis Arquette who is the brother of Rosanna and Patricia.

17. The Zed character was apparently lifted from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, of all sources. Power Rangers also had a villain named Zed (in the English-dubbed scenes) who wields a staff topped with a Z-shaped ornament that is very similar to Zed's keychain in the movie.

18. Mia calls Vincent "cowboy," and Vincent calls Mia "cowgirl" in return. John Travolta and Uma Thurman starred in "Urban Cowboy" and "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues," respectively.

SL Jacksons attitude in that scene is simply incredible.

Another Pulp Fact
:
Vincent Vega is Vic Vega's brother (from resevoir dogs - played by Michael Madsen)

not only that, but for some time, tarantino planned to make a "Vega Brothers" film.

LOL @ the 'hamburgers' pic

one thing i must mention about this movie, it has a perfect soundtrack of songs that introduced me to some tunes i wouldn't probally seek out if i haven't heard them in the film. such surf rock songs like dick dale's 'misirlou' or 'the tornadoes, bustin surfboards'

i love when vincent takes out mia... he goes to the house to pick her up and the song is 'son of a preacher man' then they dance at jack rabbit slims to chuck berry's 'you never can tell' then back at the house mia puts on 'girl, you'll Be a woman soon' its a beautiful thing indeed.

I agree wholeheartedly. Uma is very freshfaced and smoking hot in this movie. I never found her attractive in her other movies tho...I compare how she looked in Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill and DAMN....she looks pretty damn busted in Kill Bill (always been my opinion..)

She is at her best in Pulp Fiction.
Lefty...I may have to watch my DVD again to check out those "horrific" eyes ;)

it's easy to miss. i reckon most respond with a laugh (including me), as that is one way to deal with such horror.

the true romance scene is a bit better than the pulp fiction one imo.

1. brilliant facts there, frank, very interesting. thanks for posting that. :)

2. CC: "i said god damn! GOD DAMN!" was a reference to what she exclaims after taking a massive line of coke in the toilets. i also say the same thing after doing the same thing. ;) The Uma is smoking hot 100% of the time; not just in this movie. <3

3. true romance is also one of my most favourite films. i see there is no thread for it here? weird. (there is now ;))

EDIT: 4. OMFG, that Gump Fiction is fucking HILARIOUS!!! :D

"i'm gonna have to get medieval on your butt-ocks" =D

BRILLIANT THREAD.
