Opioids puking on oxy after a long break of not using

About a year and a half ago, I had dug myself into a pretty serious oxy habit along with IV heroin. 120mgs of oxy would get me buzzed but not blasted. I ended up kicking the habit and going to rehab, and after I got out during the whole span of a year I have used oxys very occasionally in the form of 30 roxy IRs, and used about 4 times during that whole year. Like once every 3 months and only did one dose which was 30-45mgs snorted.

6 weeks ago I decided to try heroin via IV method, I took a fraction a of the dose I formally used to shoot, and the effects were extremely strong. After a bit of time I ended up puking my guts out over and over again. In the past when I injected many times greater than the dose I never had any issues with nausea or shallow breathing. I concluded that I'm not doing heroin again as it make me very sick and puked my guts out. I let 6 weeks past and decided to do something weaker and not IV the drug directly into my veins.

Fast forward 6 weeks or one and a half month. Then today I got my hands one of the generic OC 80s, and thought to myself how one and a half years ago my tolerance was as high as 120mgs, I assumed it has dropped to a certain amount but never back down to baseline. I also looked into psychological tolerance, and thought to myself maybe the psychological tolerance doesn't go away, so I assumed taking a full 80mgs would be safe. I crushed up the tablet and parachuted all 80mgs. The effects were very strong, I got to a point where my CNS depression was very slow to where I had to watch my breathing because it was so slow. Then about two hours in I proceeded to puke my guts out many times over and over again due to the nausea that came along.

When I was using OCs on a heavy basis I can take greater than 120mgs and suffer no nausea at all. But after taking a very long break from doing any opiates I take a fraction of the dose where my former habit used to be and I puke my guts out.

Had anyone had this experience where after an extended long break of not using, I'm talking about up to a year or more, you decide to try opiates again, take a fraction of the dose it comes on too strong, you puke your guts out, get really sick etc?

I know me as someone with a former habit this is playing with fire. But after two tries and dealing with the nasty side effects ie puking my guts out many times, shallow breathing, etc... I'll try my best to not touch an opiate again.

tl:dr=guy's tolerance drops more than he expected after getting clean and he takes too much and gets nauseous

It's good that you only took a fraction of your old dose, eh? Could have been nasty. Take care of yourself.

I'm curious about something: aside from puking, did you enjoy the Oxy? You said the effects were strong because of the long break, but were they enjoyable?

I don't always use opiates every day, more like three times a week for the last three and a half years. The longest break I've had is six months and I was hoping that my tolerance would have gone down a lot. As it turned out, it HAD gone down, but not by as much as I was expecting, and the 'feel good factor' also hadn't been restored to the degree that I had hoped. This is why I ask.

I'll be interested to others' comments on your situation, too.

Everything said here has been pretty spot on. After a certain period of abstinence you basically have to treat the drug as if you've never used it before. I mean, many times one's tolerance certainly hasn't decreased to the point the thought/hoped, but it's certainly the safest thing you can do to start as low as you can bring yourself to. Soon enough you'll be higher than high.

I said the oxy was enjoyable, but it was nothing like your first few times of using an opiate where it produces a extremely profound state of transcendent relaxation and extremely powerful euphoria. It seems like the other tolerance such as psychological tolerance never really goes away. Once you used to experiencing this level of euphoria its never the same. But I would say its still quite euphoric, just not as good as the first few times as described.
Physical tolerance does go down, and so does the physical tolerance to the negative effects such as nausea as I have learned from the time I did oxy.

Very good note. IMHO this goes for more or less any drug that has ever produced a "profound" shift in sense of self that I have taken, at least with very few exceptions (and such are no opioids to be sure).
