A majority of adults in the United States are willing to legalize marijuana, according to a poll by Angus Reid Public Opinion
The Angus Reid poll shows that 53 percent of respondents support the legalization of Marijuana while just 43 percent of those who took the poll were against it.

Despite the support of a majority of people for the legalization, a huge majority of those respondents don't support the legalization of other 'harder' drugs like Crack, Cocaine, or Ecstasy. Only about eight percent of respondents support the legalization of those narcotics.

While the support isn't completely equal among political parties, legalization of marijuana does see support from all three major groups. Among Democrats, 63 percent support legalization, while 55 percent of Independents lend their support. While it's not a majority the 43 percent of Republicans who support legalization is a large number among the conservative base.

Perhaps one factor in the growing support of marijuana legalization is the perceived failure of the drug war. Among respondents, 68 percent said they feel the 'War on Drugs' has been a failure. Independents weigh in with the highest percentage of people who think it's been a failure with 76 percent.

The older people who are against legalization are making up less and less of the electorate. Younger people are more open minded and willing to support it. More and more, I see mainstream TV channels and newspapers discussing the idea. Even George Will, a very conservative republican, seems to support it. You can tell that the idea is becoming more acceptable to the political establishment. And now we see that a majority of Americans support legalizing weed. I think it's only a matter of time before it is legalized.

I dont fucking understand. if the government is so against it because they cant make money off of it, then why dont they just grow it and make taxes off of it. i know that it will probably be more expensive but atleast people wont have to worry about get busted with that shit. way too many people in this country smoke the palnt for it to still be illegal. the government needs to realize this and make it legal already.

The War of Drugs only profit to tobacco, alcohol and pharmaceutical companies.

Hopefuly all the idiots who have power and rule against marijuana will soon be too old to govern and die
