Psytrance clubs....what's that all about then?

Aw, that's a proper shame. I could have took your Bluelight cherry. ;) Maybe next time...

Psy-Trance / Acid Techno nights are boss.

Went to my first one years ago in Liverpool, it was called Alien Resonance.

I have also been to that Riff Raff in Leeds a few times, it's absolutely bangin'.

The best thing about Psy nights is that they are very often the only place you can source LSD from, it is very difficult to get it anywhere else but it is easy in the Psy clubs.

sunrise in leeds on saturday at the west indian!
plenty of psy and electro, psybreaks et al in the 2nd room! gonna be killa!

Hahahaha. No.

There's nothing worse than cunts with the taps aff shouting "HERE WE FUCKING GO!", I can't stand those pricks. Luckily the nights I go to tend not to have many of those idiots although you do inevitably get a few at the bigger nights.

My pet hate about nights in Scotland. Dunno when it started, but I can recall the 1st time I heard that dreaded chant was at a Rhumba Club night in 1997.

I used to go to SpaceHopper in Brum, they used to call the music Psychedelic Trance Techno, it span off from some parties the originators used to put on in various locations..this was probably 93-94, was a good crowd, good clean pumpin techno, lots of hardfloor type acid...acid and E, good qual too.

Then the "Goa" scene started to make the sounds a bit more kind of , well, Goa, and then finally that fuckin terrible "trance" sound that Judge Joolz bastardised onto the back of the mitsubishi scene revival etc, and trance became a byword for tosh.

Psy-trance i find a bit earnest, psy-trance crowds can be a bit cliquey. I miss the days when the music was the most important thing. Spacehopper and the parties they ran were about amazing music, and loving it.

I think anyway, I was young and addled at the time.

theres a lot of haters but I like certain psy nights for the reasons you mention, everyone is very friendly and generally waay out of their boxes, also, like you mention, the crowd is of a much wider age range, you do tend to see a lot of older people (quite often hippies who aren't so much as into psy trance as they are into LSD and looking at the decor)

personally I'm not a huge fan of the music don't listen to it but can get into some of the full on psy so long as its interesting (and I'm fucked =D) some psy tracks just don't go anywhere and some are cheesy as fuck in a bad way, but all of it attracts the same crowd.. its very bouncy music and most of the people are very colorful :)

must say I see why it gets so much shit, there can be annoying hippie types who think psy is the only decent style of electronic music, chat balls about karma or other pretentious crap and tell you their trips are 278.5µg.. also I know people who have tried their best to enjoy the music but just find it all to similar and hate it, but that doesn't mean the night won't be fun

Cabbage in Leeds is the best one I have been too, at the westie, proper full on not pretentious and a lot of fun.. also theres always lots of acid and other decent drugs at psy nights, stuff you wouldn't find in such abundance at lots of others ;)

try listening to a bit see if you could dance to it, you don't want to go and just find it a psychedelic nightmare
.

very nice friendly crowds at psy party some of the happiest people ever with no attitue and lots of high quality drugs. not snobbish at all ime and one of the scenes with a very diverse crowd, you're guaranteed to see people up to their sixties having it :).

shame about the shit music

The vibe at many of the psy events I've been to felt like early/mid 90's raves i.e. underground, loved up, colorful, and full of diverse peeps dancing the night away.

All of this.

I wouldn't/couldn't listen to Psytrance unless at a Psytrance party or at home on the way down with the candle still burning... but off yer tits on MD crystal and 'cid (and/or other Goodies) it's the only time I've ever shaken my not inconsiderable booty and its attending tailfeather in public, to be honest. The music is horrible listened to sober but it really does capture the "MDMA Wigglybum Dance" vibe perfectly and all those wibblyswirly samples and stuff make your acidic gland pulse with joy. It just works as a whole, in my opinion.

For pure music taste I would look elsewhere... but for friendliness, atmosphere, pretty things, and well-appreciated refreshments (the 6AM bowl of fruit in ice-water is a godsend <3) and the like it's hard to beat. It's as close to the vibe of a proper oldskool rave as you can get, in my opinion. Tunes less so. But I honestly don't care. Atmosphere counts way higher than tunes you won't remember the next day beyond being a blur anyway really.

As for the squat party vs clubland vs free party argument... hahahahahahahahaha! You really do need to get out more, Dee ;)<3

PS: On the scoring front... I was offered LSD, DMT, 2C-B, ket, speed, weed and probably several other things within an hour or two. And they were more than decent quality too from what I gathered. Personally, I didn't indulge as I accidentally necked 500ug of 'cid, fuckloads of ket and got through a gramme of MD (not to mention a whole lotta other bitz and bobz) that I had on me or bought off friendly folks on the way there last time I went. You couldn't wish for more opportunities to score good drugs from good people with little to no gangsterism or other shite to deal with at any kinda event other than maybe some festivals, in my opinion.

A lot of the squat raves, etc you find here play loads of dark psy along with lots of other types like breakcore/hard dance/techno/awesome old tracks from the 90s. The people there are brilliant, loved up and out to have a good time. You wont see many fights/dickheads at them like you tend to find at most events. Even if you weren't a big fan of the music, suck it up, drop a few pills and enjoy the atmosphere.

Regarding people there is a complete range of ages and types of people. Awesome visuals/lazers/etc too.

Aww Shammy, you've gone and spoilt it now. I was just beginning to really like the idea and you've ruined it now with your tales of drug fueled debauchery and hedonistic bliss. It sounds horrific...

Naaa, thanks man. It sounds absolutely perfect for what I'm after. I'll report back with my blurred research results after next weekend. Can't wait. 3 months of abstinence and then this =D Party on, ear hairs shaved, grey bits trimmed, cardiovascular system suitably warned.....

That's so funny b/c I've also reached the point in life where preparing for a night out is akin to training for a 5k.

Went to Illuminaughty in Manchester, on Saturday. Absolutely amazing night. Every single person had a massive smile on their face, and massive pupils to match. Proper happy vibe. Every single person I spoke to was lovely. I danced like a motherfucker for most of the night. They gave out free ice pops, halfway through, and they even had nitrous on sale, along with several research chemicals (which no one bothered with). The best night I've had in years. The after party was on until 9am, but I left at 7, due to severe exhaustion. I feel about 80 today, because I'm aching all over. I forget I'm not 18, any more.

Fantastic mate. You lucky git :) I WILL be going to Illuminaughty next time. BL meet?

Still, I went out to a certain small club in Sheffield at the weekend to pop my psytrance cherry. I cannot believe I've missed out all these years. Was amazing. People were all well fucked and so nice as well. Music was better than I thought, but got better as the night went on strangely enough.

+1 on the aching part. Sad but true.

Nothing wrong with psy-trance.

I've lived through a Bluelight where I was the first person to ever mention it, got totally ignored, then followed by every BL'er in EADD pretending they'd been into it all the time, followed by it becoming 'unhip' (the people have decided) and evryone pretending to hate it, followed by some of those same people coming back to this thread to say they enjoy it.

:)

Get up and dance motherfuckers.

I think i'm the one who decides what's hip (word hip isn't hip anymore btw) around here aren't i?

you've always been hip SHM, you transcend trends (i'm not even being a sarcy wanker for once haha)
