Psychiatrist calls for end to 30-year taboo over medical use of LSD

Scientists in the burgeoning psychedelic psychiatry movement will be there, alongside artists, musicians and those who look to hallucinatory drugs for spiritual experience - no fucking shit. that was one of the worst things you could say to legitimize its use

Come on now. There's a danger in letting the "scientists" take control. There's a total lack of democracy in how the "scientists" decide what to research. Sure, when they do something we want, we jump on their bandwagon and shout for them. But in my opinion we have to be careful not to support the line taken by Huxley & etc., that LSD was only safe in the hands of the "brightest and the best". For if that was the way of things (and total prohibition of LSD along with other substances, with its exemptions for 'medical/scientific research' currently engenders just such a way of thinking) punters like you and I would only get these substances prescribed if we were victims - i.e. 'ill'

So I would say we should be totally democratic and invite anyone - artists, musicians, poets, psychonauts & etc. etc. to the consultation process.

I suspect that the aforementioned 'artistes' have probably gained more insight and knowledge of LSD than scientists will ever obtain - we/they are 40 years ahead of them - and social knowledge and understanding is everybit as important as laboratory results (which are only valid in the laboratory remember).

This is not a dig at all scientists/psychiatrists - there are quite a few out there who will carry out expansive research. But fears of the 'escape' of psychedelics into the community will mean strictly controlled experimentation. Will a psychiatrist accompany me to a club to find out why I really enjoy dancing my ass off to psy-trance? No way! Yet there's a significant section of the population out here who find such situations incredibly therapeutic and spiritual. And Doc H. thinks the spiritual aspect is valid - is that not what a lot of music, poetry & etc. is about?.

But I'm glad the noose is being gently loosened:)

Acid and shrooms should be legal. Our bodies don't belong to the government. I really don't understand anti drug people. I can see anti heroin, anti meth or anti alcohol. I've been on medication my whole life for OCD. Every medication I've been put on has been uneffective. I'd love to be able to take shrooms with a doctor if it could help cure OCD.

I've seen so many normally relaxed people become highly OCD while tripping so I agree. I can understand the insight aspect, but as a treatment? I can only see someone who is OCD take over a room with a mop and bucket when tripping.

i think the idea of using LSD to treat OCD is that the environment is such that discussion of the disorder is encouraged... the trip lasts long after the spirals and loop-behaviour dissapear... this is when the doc would have the chance to speak with their patient who has a totally open mind, be able to discuss possible causes of the disorder in the first place, without the mental blocks in place.... LSD is about more than pretty colours i'm sure...

What I want to know is... does the doc take it WITH you? that would lead to some interesting therapy indeed!

If only, though the directions on 'Delysid' that Hoffman used to send out from Sandoz Labs used to instruct the Psychiatrist that they MUST use it on themselves first.. Strange prescription requirement eh?
