In all of my reading I've never come across any information on psychedelics being made from other amino acids besides the two everyone knows. I did use search and found no info on this forum. I may get the dunce cap for asking but I' m very interested in hearing anything.=D

I am not asking for synthesis, I am no chemist. I just wondered if it is possible or not. I couldn't care less about how to make them. I just thoght it interesting that all stimulants/hallucinogens come from tryptophan and phenylalanine, that' all.

Shulgin suggested a HIHKAL,with compounds derived from Histamine/Histidine,not sure how serious he was ...

they only potentiate psychedelics, but the simple racetams are amino acids, piracetam being proline-alanine, as it would appear in a peptide chain (amides instead of amines/carboxylic acids)

I always wondered about Tyrosine, methionine, and valine. Since tyrosine converts to phenylalanine. And I've read tha high doses of valine can make you feel like your skin is crawling. Although that in no way sounds desirable. But thanks for the info on nootropics; for some reason I thought they were tweaked vitamins.

phenylalanine->amphetamine
tryptophan->AMT
-and I think-
5-HTP->5-HT->5-MeO-DMT (different, use simple decarboxylation step instead of special reduction)
tyrosine->p-HO-amphetamine->p-MeO-amphetamine (PMA) (theoretical)
DOPA->3,4-diHO-amphetamine->MDA (theoretical)

These can be achieved with the use of a special reduction system, which I forget the name of (and which is forbidden to mention here anyway).

Wrll considering all the known psychedelics that don't also show activity at receptors other than 5HT & catecholamines have either a tryptamine skeleton or dopamine skeleton within them and that the catecholamines all come from phenylalanine/tyrosine and serotonin from tryptophan, I wouldn't expect to see psychedelics based on other amino acids unless using psychedelic to mean in it's most general way (encompassing kappa agonists, non-competitive NMDA antagonists & CB1 agonists )

phenylalanine->amphetamine

what do you mean by that ?

I mean with that when you react phenylalanine with the right specialized reduction system, you can convert it to amphetamine. The " -> " denotes an arrow.

I just mean a compound that has similar subjective effects for the user. Unfortunately I am not very knowledgable about how tryps& phens work their magic. That's why I asked.[/QUOTE]

Well, I can think of several, if debatable, candidates. Salvia pops to mind immediately. Also, muscimol from A. muscaria, a variety of isoquinolines found in cacti and, of course, the tropane alkaloids.

The last three, especially the tropanes, are not usually considered to be a true psychedelics but they will put the victim, er, I mean subject, into a visionary state. There also exist a grest variety of plant alkaloids which will have psychoactive effects

Of these the only which could be consider a derivative of an amino acid would be the isoquinolines.
