Psychedelics + [insert discipline, spiritual or otherwise, here]

Does anyone have any experience with combining some kind of spiritual (or otherwise) practice with the consumption of a mind-altering substance?

Some possible examples:

LSD and Vipassana Meditation
Mushrooms and Qigong
MDMA and Tantric Yoga
Peyote and Throat Singing
2C-D and Energy Healing

As for me, I have minimal experience with anything like this, other than the fact that i feel musically enhanced on practically anything and LSA and Mescaline seem to reveal to me a reliable intuition for self-healing with energy/reiki/massage.

I'm also keen on the idea of combining MDMA and Tantric Yoga... seems like a synergistic combo.

I've done hatha yoga on a variety of psychedelics and have always found it grounding. I sit (zazen) regularly but it seems more useful as an adjunct to psychedelic use; combining the two simultaneously never did much for me for some reason.

Also various occult paradigms have made for some pretty interesting (temporary) road maps for navigating the experience.

I've done yoga on San Pedro before, and I always read my runes/Tarot cards when I take things...Ecstasy, opiates, pot...you name it...also love reading inspirational books about things like astrology, auras and chakras, etc.

I always do some yoga or the minimal tai chi I know whil on psychedelics. I've found both to be beautiful ways to feel the flow of energy within the body

Xanax tends to help me with zazen sorts of meditation. I imagine that any benzodiazepines would be fine... they help to facilitate that stillness that we seek. The only problem is, of course, becoming reliant on the drug to achieve such a state.

I also started doing ecstasy just as I was getting really into Kundalini yoga. The two had intense synergy, and I had some of the most profound experiences of my life during this time. It's not even important to be on X during the time of the kundalini practice. Just the fact that the two were being done within the same era... kundalini during the "integration" period following my MDMA experiences was extremely valuable.

I don't know Tai Chi, but doing Tai Chi-like motions on heroin is extremely fun and calming.

Interesting thread.

I find that doing tai chi on psychedelics, especially during the come up, can help calm the jitters and ground me for the trip to come. I highly recommend it. I find that it feels fantastic when on a substance like MDMA that increases the tactile feelings associated with deep breathing.

Even if you are not experienced with tai chi, try stretching and deep breathing on a psychedelic, its usually pretty darn enjoyable, and is a good way of releaving body tensions that you may be experiencing. It can also propel you into a different space than you've been in for the trip. In fact, next time i trip, i'll do that, and write a trip report about it.

Combining seated meditation with mescaline always seems to be "way too much" for me. I cannot really focus-on-not-focusing when I've got visuals and words and sounds and textures flying through my head.

I've gotten through some rough mushroom come-ups with yoga. It definitely channels the jitters and turns an otherwise difficult experience into an ecstatic one.

Yoga and pot go extremely well together; the sadhus were sky high when they invented it in the first place. McKenna called yoga a "how to use cannabis technique."

I've tried kundalini with mushrooms and lsd but it was strangely no different than kundalini sober, which is intense anyway.

Shivasana, or corpse pose, is the most intense technique I've found for going deep into a trip. Just lay flat on the back, let the legs flop open to the sides, arms open hands pointing up, relax every muscle from toes to eye sockets, let eyes roll back into the head. Say goodbye. Awesome.

TRhe only thing I ever tried was briefly meditating ( breath/mindfullnes/fuck knows if it's got a "proper" title) on a dose of MDMA/mushrooms - it was aaah expansive but brief , I found it too hard to maintain the concentration after my wife started talking to me - one doesn't like to be rude so I stopped & talked back to her.

I frequently meditate on my lsd plateau 30 minutes at a time.
Tantric sex is absolutely wonderful with lsd also such a closeness between you!
