Psychedelics and your pets

I love my cats while I'm rolling, I also have a lil gerbil I take him out and let him run around in his exercise ball. Its funny because my cats just watch him, they never once attacked him even when he went to sleep on my kichen table exposed to everything and anything for a whole night. I was surprised that he was torn up to shreds, my cats knew he was there. Oh and by the way I got six cats =]

I've tripped a few times near my roommate's dog back in uni. She was an auburn Pomeranian, the sweetest little thing. Blew our minds how soft she is.
I've never tripped around my own dog, but I can't imagine how much I'd dig her

I alwaaaays have nice trips with my golden retriever! On MDMA his fur feels awesome, and on LSD some sort of communication happens always ;) My dog loves eveeeryone so it keeps me in a positive vibe

My cat doesn't like it if I'm alone and tripping around him. He notices the subtle changes in my demeanor instantly and gets very anxious, having even gone as far as to stand in front of me and yell at me (meowing as loud and as forcefully as he can while whipping his tail back and forth quickly).

I think he calculates his own perceived level of safety by observing my behavior; if I'm acting as I usually do, he assumes that there haven't been any worrying changes in our environment. If its obvious that I'm behaving unusually, he assumes that it must be a result of some type of threatening change. It probably doesn't help matters that when I trip alone I'm usually using a fairly high dosage of a substance in order to delve deep into my psyche; which, I'm not gunna lie, can be scary as shit even to an experienced tripper-- so possibly he can sense my fear response.

Interestingly, when my girlfriend and I are tripping together at my house, my cat LOVES it. I think he can sense the playful mood; when we trip together, the experience is usually less serious and more lighthearted in nature than when I trip alone. This usually assuages my cat's fears, and he can relax and keep us company while we trip. :)

Cats didn't originate on this planet, btw-- they come from a very distant galactic cluster that our instrumentation is unable to detect. Don't ask me how I know this, just take my word for it! :D

"I'm surprised no one has mentioned a telepathic connection with their animals while tripping. I have telepathic moments with my cat every time she is around while tripping - only catch is I have to touch her head. If I am, I can read her thoughts and to some extent her memories (which seem very limited, at least to me). Its a very incredible sensation, its so instinctual.
"

thats funny you mention this because I had a very similar experience on 2C-E. When I touched my cats head its like we bonded and I saw through his eyes briefly. It was insane, I was him walking around the house, surrounded by these terrifying entities. I saw myself enter the room and all of the sudden I felt extremely calm, like my presence had taken away all of his fear. I know it sounds crazy but it was an amazing experience.

Another time me and a buddy were walking around town on shrooms. we ran into this random cat and it was like he was trying to get us to follow him, so we did. every few feet he would turn back and meow if we weren't following him...He led us to this backyard with a bridge and a little river running through it...it was like a little cat paradise. we almost went in to chill with him but then we realized it was someones yard and kept walking. still cool though, it was like he knew we were tripping and wanted to show us some cool shit.

lol reminds me of when me and my cousin went on a random walk (stoned as all fuck) we were too lazy to walk up a massive hill and back down too the front door so we jumped my back fence and every one was asleep so we didn't want to wake anyone up so we chilled in the back yard, then when we we're sitting there a dog came up to us it wasn't mine and i was like "Cindi.... we have the wrong house".

Tripping with pets can indeed be great fun. I do, however, have a couple weird experiences, and one piece of caution.

As far as appearance while on drugs go, I have a brown tabby, hes 14 years old and has been a huge part of my life for over half my life, (its kinda crazy to think about that when in that state of mind) but he always appears to have a much more golden glow/tint to him when I'm under the influence, truly a beautiful creature. One time tho I was deep in the lysergic and feeling in tuen with him and he wanted to just lay (as usual) where he thought was most comfortable, i.e. all up in my face while i was trying to read comics. It was cool at first, i felt the connection and just wanted to make him happy, hey he's not around as long as we are and all, so I'm beginning to think it's our jobs tomake them as happy as possible while they are here. But I eventually was uncomfortable with how he was laying and all up in my shit. I wound up in this hour long internal dialogue over control between pet owner and pet, and imposing one's will over the other etc. it was very weird and I think it could have something to with my reading material at the time influencing my thoughts (Grant Morrison's The Invisibles) Very weird.

One piece of caution-I like to really brake up my shrooms, kinda chew just a little and swallow with water. One draw back to this is that it creates a whole bunch of dust and particulate that can get everywhere if you're not careful. I always make sure my cat is nowhere near, and that I wash my hands and any surfaces he can come in contact with before letting back into the mix. It wouldn't take much; powder on your hands that gets in his fur and he ingests when washing himself, little chunks here and there in places where he might normally go scavenging for meat scraps etc. to F them up a little.

Anyone else do that? or am I just paranoid? Tl;dr?

^I do that too. I'm extremely paranoid about my cat possibly ingesting any drugs. I dose all psychedelics in my bathroom; a room he's never allowed into. Then I shower to remove any possible residue that may have come in contact with my skin. This is most important for solutions of chemicals like 2C-x, and especially DOx. I'm not going to take any chances whatsoever-- I can't imagine such a desperate hell: to realize your beloved animal friend is having a medical emergency, caused by accidentally ingesting YOUR chemicals, while you're in the middle of a trip. That makes me nauseous and horrified just to think about.

I'm far less worried about cannabis and DMT, those not having the capacity to maim or kill (in the case of DMT, it would quickly be rendered inactive my MAO if accidentally ingested, not that I take any chances with that either). I simply keep them in a place he can't get to, and when I smoke them I put him in the other room and make sure to air the room out before he comes back in. I don't bother with meticulously washing myself after handling them though, like with more dangerous compounds.

My dog gets scared and hides when I'm drunk. He is normal when I'm high or take LSD. He gets happy as shit and snuggles up against me when I smoke DMT. He knows what's up. A guy threw up mushrooms in my back yard and my dog ate the vomit once. I didn't find out until after he ate the shrooms. We were both tripping like crazy, it was not a good time.

My cats are great company in my trips; they behave like they usually do, and because we're often awake for much longer they seem interested in what we're doing and will often come and check what we're doing. My cats look exceptionally beautiful when I'm on LSD; their fur, their colours, their shape, their eyes.. magical almost. They don't seem to notice although they do sometimes look at me funny and seem more active themselves aswell, maybe their picking up on our energetic euphoric moods (I get that on LSD) and act more active and happy because of that too.

I'm not sure, but my cats are fun to look at when tripping.

I am really worried about this too. Especially because rabbits are more sensitive to psychs than other animals. Whenever I am on something she always tries to lick my hands but I dont let her because I worry that I might have some residue left on my hands, especially with the 2c's.

My cat seems to know im different but only when i was high round him. If i came in from clubbing after being high he would just lie on my chest till i nodded off then sleep down the bottom of my bed. When im on acid he looked fluffier and did feel softer but i was unusally fuct that night - cheap acids so doubled up each time and had 4 by time the first kicked in. I love my cat being about when im high

Yeah realistically, there is likely to be residue. So wash thoroughly.

Even meticulous professional chemists can't always totally avoid exposure when working with potentially-dangerous solutions; so its probable that a layman working without proper equipment, in a less than ideal environment, will unknowingly contaminate themselves and the surrounding area.

I used to be really scared that my pets would end up trippin if I was touching them while I was trippin, ESP with Acid! Maybe I'm just nuts... lol I always assumed though, if Acid was absorbed through my skin, then couldn't it be transferred to them? Who knows.. this is a great thread, I always wondered about all this too. I used to think my dogs hated me when I would tweak though, thought they would look at me weird and be thinking 'mom!! WTH are you doing??' ... that may have been the paranoia though :P

wow, some of these posts reallllly make me want to trip around my dog. I think around my bird would be scary as hell. But damn, looks like its a whole new thing...yessss

holy shit, when i tripped on shrooms in front of my boxer it felt like my dog was tripping on shrooms too...like she got a contact "trip" from me lol every time i tried to get her excited she would make fast jerking movements and spin around....or it could of just been the shrooms :P

One time on LSD I was playing fetch with my dog and after a while I started to notice my that she started acted funny. She took a shit and after it looked like she was trying to crawl up her own ass. Now at this point I remembered hearing that lucy is can come out of your pours and effect others and that if a small animal is on a trip they can get scared and have a heart attack. So in my acid induced state of mind I tried to make sure my dog was completely taken care of and calm without being able to touch her until my girlfriend at the time arrived home. Lucky for us the dog was okay and seemed to quite enjoy it actually.

Myth. That doesn't mean contact highs don't exist, though. They CERTAINLY do.

Whether tripping or not, your state of mind will always affect those around you.
