Help! Psychedelics and Cannabis Combo: Conclusions and questions

Hi everyone!

After more than a year of researching psychedelics (around 25 trips with psilocybin, LSD analogs, and 4-HO-XX tryptamines), I’ve come to a surprising conclusion: Cannabis, at least in my experience, is kind of essential for the most profound trips.

I first tried combining it with 4-HO-MET, since even doses up to 40mg felt pretty mild to me. I vaped about 0.5g of a good strain—and suddenly, it all changed. The synergy between the two was amazing: a much richer headspace, deep introspection, music enhancement, a warm euphoria… and overall a way more profound experience. It honestly felt like a completely different substance. Not just a boost in potency—a qualitatively different experience.

Same goes for LSD analogs (1V-LSD and 1P-LSD). Even doses up to 150–225mcg felt relatively light, but after adding a few hits of cannabis, the experience really opened up. At higher doses (225–375mcg), the substance alone produced a solid psychedelic trip—but again, a bit of cannabis took it to a whole new level. I’ve had maybe a couple of difficult moments when I vaped too much or too quickly, but those were totally manageable. Pacing the hits seems to be key.

I can confidently say that the psychedelic + cannabis combo is a different beast compared to psychedelics alone—and it’s given me some of the deepest, most meaningful experiences I’ve ever had.

So here’s the question:

Should I increase my psychedelic dosages to see how far I can go without cannabis?
Or is it possible that even higher doses won’t match the depth and magic of the combo?

I actually tried pushing it with 50mg of 4-HO-MET, but honestly, it felt less profound than just 20mg + cannabis.

Same story with 375mcg of 1V-LSD. It was a good trip—maybe even similar in intensity to 40mg of 4-HO-MET + cannabis. But once I hit the vape… BOOM. A whole different experience, much deeper and more intense.

So now I’m wondering:

Is it just a matter of dosage, or is the combo creating something unique that can’t be reached through psychedelics alone?

I’d love to hear your thoughts and personal experiences with this. For me, cannabis adds a kind of magic to the psychedelic state—something I haven’t found with the substances alone.

Thanks in advance!

Smoking during the peak always puts the experience on overdrive for sure, at the same time sometimes I feel like the "high" mindstate kinda distracts me from some aspects of tripping. Like I most of the time I feel pretty stupid when I'm high and psychedelics give me a mental sharpness that I appreciate and is lost in that combo. So I'm not sure it always leads to "more profound" experiences, in my case at least .

BUT, for purely recreational trips and specially when I'm out there seeing live music in a tripping friendly environment; then yes, it's certainly quite nice to add in some weed. I only need to be careful not to overdo it, otherwise I can easily fall into anxious mental loops.

Its best to keep the ratio of cannabis low in my experience. It potentiates the trip for sure, but too much cannabis can also detract from the experience because it adds confusion, amnesia, anxiety and clouds your thought process. This can make it more difficult to navigate or integrate the experience. I don't like to use cannabis during the peak, only before or after during the comedown. I feel like I learn and bring back more from the trip when I keep my cannabis use low or wait for the comedown to use it.

My real goal is to have a full psychedelic experience just with the substance ( LSD, Psylocibin….)

The problem is that, so far and with dosages up to 3.5g of Cubensis or 375mcg of 1V-LSD, I haven’t had this “being in the other side of the mirror” sensation, felt less deep than combining for example 4-HO-MEt (a supposedly light headed psychedelic) with weed.

375mcg of 1V-LSD felt close… but still not as intense, and at that dosage, I felt that the experience wasn’t as clean and sharp as with 4-HO-MET + weed.

Maybe I should push the dosages a little bit further. Based on my experiences with dosages, I guess I have some kind of natural tolerance to psychedelics.

I typically don't enjoy cannabis although I used to. Even then, I still try to always have some weed on hand for when I trip. During the peak it can be a bit too much and can add some chaos to the headspace for me. However, despite having absolutely zero tolerance for cannabis, as soon as the peak starts dying down I'm able to smoke copious amounts of cannabis without it throwing me into anxiety or panic attacks. When I'm sober, a single hit is likely to throw me into an anxiety attack. Get a psychedelic in me and I can just smoke and smoke and smoke. I don't find it "crucial" for a trip, not for myself at least, but it is great for the comedown to bring the trip back up, relax some body tension, and start relaxing and getting sleepy for bedtime (I typically trip at night). I personally find dissociatives more "necessary" for a trip than cannabis, but that's just myself. It can be easy to get out there. One of my greatest trips was 16mg 4-HO-MIPT and 3-ho-pcp and DMXE bumped throughout the night and then 8mg of 4-ACO-DMT added later on. Had a great time by myself watching Studio Ghibli movies

i find that an average dose of psychedelics with weed is best cause the weed kicks the psychedelic in strong but doesn't last as long as if i take a larger dose of most psychedelics.

i find smoking dmt or salvia to be ideal shorter duration trips.... taking a big dose of something like lsd lasts too long for me for the most part.

nitrous also kicks lower dose psychedelics in strong for a short period.
