Psychedelics and animals

Does it count as animal abuse if your parrot climbs down from your shoulder, onto your weed cleaning tray and decides to help himself to your stash??

Haha =D That's funny. Think of it this way, your parrot CHOSE to do that, you personally didn't dose him. I remember, one time, some friends and I were enjoying ourselves with a vial of powdered K. For some reason, my friend sitting next to me forgot to screw the cap back on the vial, so when we came out of our K-holes, we were stunned to see my cat pretending to be a soccer player with the open vial of K, powder spilling out all over the floor. From that point on, that friend was never the last person to do a line lol.

The only psychedelics I have noticed that they act weirdly when I'm around them on that psychedelic are the DMTs and ketamine.

Ketamine probably bring back bad memories for the cats of coming back from the vets and wondering what the fuck is happening (we had one cat though that had a couple of dentals under ketamine and seemed to love the emergence syndrome, trying to push himself under the 'fridge (1 inch gap) etc.!)

I think thats what caused the confusion about you dosing your animals.

Whoa! How did that come out of my fingers?? 8o

Thanks, I edited my post for future readers.

So true! Both of my cats have had ketamine before at the vet.

doood, i can read animals mindss when im tripping. but in all seriousness animals always come sit next to me when im tripping or sober. it seems as if they stare at me more when im tripping tho.

In my experience, animals definitely recognize when I am under the influence of something, but don't necessarily react in a negative way. The first time I tried a psychedelic (a bit less than an eigth of mushrooms), my cat became very interested in staying close to me and looking at me. As I walked around the house aimlessly looking at things, my cat followed closely, and looked up at me intently whenever we stopped moving. If I stared back at her, she would meow once or twice, too. She was very friendly, and a phenomenal companion for the trip. This lasted for a few hours--definitely never happened while sober.

I do alot of fly-fishing on moderate doses of several tryptamines, and I have had deer and birds like geese and pelicans coming within just a few feet of me and stare. Normally, these creatures do not make their presence known with humans around

That reminds me... twice when I've tripped in the woods, I've had deer come close to me and just stand there, even when I moved closer to them (although I never fully approached). I've also had squirrels come very close and sniff me, and once a chipmunk ran out of the brush and literally jumped on my leg and sat there looking and sniffing at me for a minute or so before leisurely scampering on.

Also, once a stray dog came up to my friends and I while we were on mushrooms in the woods and smoking a bowl. It sat there calmly as we smoked, sitting in our cloud, and at the end of the rotation, this dogstarted throwing its head to the ground and rubbing it in the dirt. It was very strange and hard to describe! Then the dog started running in circles and ran out into the prairie grasses (this was in Aurora, Illinois). The grass was much taller than the dog, so we watching its path running really, really fast through the grass, and every so often the dog would pop out of the grass as it leapt, its whole body and feet above the tops of the grass, and the dog would appear to hang there like Michael Jordan for a couple of seconds and then continue running. That dog stayed with us for the rest of the day and tried to get in my car hours later when we were leaving!

Ahh, good times.

True fact!
One in six trippers get picked on by cats

Haha =D Cats, I think, are very able to notice and understand our states. I've noticed that with my cat everytime I've tripped around her. I've also had strange experiences with squirrels and deer while out in nature taking a special interest in me and my friends, animals seem much more in tune to states of being like tripping, we really don't give animals enough credit imo.

Being around animals on psychedelics

I have a pet amazon blue fronted parrot (she loves to smoke weed and it super talkative) and it acts incredibly different around me when im on psychedelics, her name is akika and shes been my ground to reality more than once. The parrot is 26, 6 years older than me, as a kid she would always bite me and freak out if i tried to get near to her.
When i was about 16 i started doing mushrooms. On about my third trip i was chillin in my lazyboy playing with this wierd 3d puzzle, and it was most definately frustrating while on a decent amount of mushrooms. Out of nowhere this parrot who normally absolutely hates me blurts out "hiiiiii, hi, hi, hi, come here, its okay". Obviously at first i just thought i was tripping balls but it went on, so i walk up to her cage and she waddles over to the side and hops down on my shoulder (this scared the shit out of me at the time).
Atfirst i was really nervous having a parrot who could easily take a huge chunk out of my ear sitting on my shoulder while i was tripping balls. Once i got over this initial shock i went back and sat down in the lazyboy with the bird on my shoulder, and it climbed around onto my chest and just stared right into my eyes purring. I finally got the courage and started petting her and scratching her neck.
Ever since that day this parrot has been best of friends with me and will not let anyone else to get close to it. Ive shared a few trips with my bird and it always gives me the best vibes. Shes really talkative and uses alot of this shit she says in very correct context which never ceases to amaze me. Shes easily the most interesting pet ive ever had and now it seems like we always know exactly how the other is feeling.
Its very wierd how it seemed like she just knew i was on somthing that day, it was a wicked bonding experience for sure.

On a less postive note, i had this spare 120 gallon tank which was my chameleons home when it was a baby. Whenever i find a spider running around my basement i throw it into the tank, into this insaine spider battle royale. One spider (the biggest ive ever caught) absolutly destroys any spider i put in there. Walking past that on mushrooms was probably the creepiest thing ive ever seen. Floor littered with spider corpses, webs covering the ENTIRE cage (theres trees and skulls and shit in there so it was super creepy). I sat on my freezer just staring into this tank for a good hour, spiders are scary as shit on psychedelics!

lol at the spiders! and thats crazy with the parrot, we had an amazon, i eventually managed to get him to trust me enough to put his claw on my hand, pretty scary! never tripped around him though, and he died a while ago :(

There is a thread already about animals and psychedelics, but I can't seem to find it to merge this in.

In short, though, many of us notice how being on psychedelics can profoundly impact the way that animals perceive us and interact with us. When I have a little more time I'll tell some stories about it. Or find the existing thread... it's a good thread.

That's a really nice story about your parrot... I've never had the opportunity to develop a relationship with a bird, but that sounds really sweet. :)

Come on, man. Close the thread. You know you want to.

Nope... merged instead. ;) I made some posts earlier in the thread, opinions and stories about experiences with animals and psychedelics.

That picture is rather upsetting.... The idea of giving a dog LSD is fairly upsetting, it can't tell you if it wants it... grr.

My friend's dog got into his wallet and ate 11 hits of acid...he was going nuts for about a week after that. Hard to imagine what must have been going through his confused little brain.

Don’t worry about Buddy he loves LSD. His favorite thing to do is taking LSD and playing ball or Frisbee. He get so excited when anyone starts pulling apart tabs of blotters be begs so hard, barks and scratches your foot.
Some times if the blotters are weak or you don’t give him enough he rubs his nose on your pocket with the hits and begs for more. I know the 3 hits in the picture is a lot but that was when he had already tripped 3 times that week and had a tolerance going.

I went to visit my mom the other day with Buddy and she was mailing a letter and tore off a stamp and Buddy freaked out and started begging for a stamp and she just couldn’t figure out what he wanted. If you knew Buddy you would know how much he loves LSD.

Yeah, my parrot is a yellow naped amazon (named Edgar, I'm still trying to teach him to say "nevermore;)) and he is the same way with me when I trip; he just has to be on my shoulder. He wont let anyone else touch him either. I got him for free from a family friend who owned a pet store because they said he was evil and could never be tamed.

My dog always used to cuddle up to me when I was on acid. I think its just that a large amount of pure, good vibes attract animals. If you were on a bad trip they'd probably be terrified of you.
