Psychedelics and ADHD

Taking psychedelics made me realize that ADD is a sham. Just because you don't perform like "they" want you too doesn't mean there's a darn thing wrong with you

Well said +1

But concentrating in school is still needed to perform functionally and get a decent job in the future, etc. I do think Psychedelics play a role in motivation like "I'm going to do better in school from now on".

In terms of actually paying attention, FWIW, I found that the paleo diet and regular exercise cured my attention problem. Psychedelics cured my motivation problem. Not to say that I'm perfect now, but definitely better.

Actually that means exactly that there's something wrong with you. Pathological is defined as being deviant from the socially acceptable standard with negative consequences. If you reject that, nothing is 'wrong' anymore: OCD, autism, alzheimer, depression, .. It's not a problem at all, it's just not what "they" want.

And yes ADD does fuck you over in this society. You can blame society as much as you want for being a wrong society, that doesn't change the fact that people with AD(H)D have it alot harder to function. And I don't only by mean studying and 'working with the system' but personal relationships and general responsability are also more problematic.

ADD is not a sham

I have been diagnosed with ADD early in life and all I can say when comparaing those who have been "medicated" with speed or ritalin over the years is that I'm happy with who I am, I don;t want to be drugged to fit social norms because I feel social norms are always fleeting. I'm incredibly motivated and artistically intact but when it comes to doing paperwork and climbing social ladders well I think ADD is just a diagnosis for those who don't feel naturally inclined to giving their life away to pencil pushing.

this argument has been repeated ad nauseum all over the net however :P

It's weird that i stumbled across this thread,

Friday i did shrooms for the first time and the day after and today i feel like my a.d.d is drastically reduced, i feel more alert. its quiet nice, i hope it lasts

Merged

please check Olaf's question: can psychedelics help with ADD or ADHD?
It would also be interesting to know if anyone thinks that there is a reason to contraindicate them /
why it would be a particularly bad idea. :) And what about the concurrent use of medication?

Personally I can only guess and say it may exaggerate AD(H)D symptoms, but it also might not do anything
very special at all, my best friend was always fine but he had his socks rocked by trips as did I.

My own interest lies rather with OCD-like symptoms and beneficial effects of psychedelics but thats another
topic and we won't discuss it here of course. :)
