Utopia, really? I think the vast numbers of judgmental fucks would still manage to largely keep the world as bad as it is today.
It's not like psychedelics cure racism/bigotry/agressiveness/greed and all those other negative human traits.
Not to say I would not prefer a psychedelic-oriented society, but imo psychedelics are best reserved for the open-minded.

What do you mean by a psychedelic society? You mean one that decriminalizes their use? Advocates it? Makes it mandatory?
And you can't really define a 'society' by just one of its features, in the same way as you can't describe london as a Car Society, or new york as a Skyscraper Society

Yeah based on my experiences at psytrance events its still very possible to like psychedelics and be a fuckwit.
In fact most of the people I know who are really into psychedelics are very damaged people with fucked up lives. Probably more a case of directionless people being attracted to the scene rather than psychedelics causing the problems but who knows.
Most people in this psychedelic discussion area of bluelight seem to be the more intellectual/humble/open type of psych user but a lot of users aren't like that.

Haha, yes.
A society which has integrated the potential of psychedelic application into their values and ethics may be something to consider; but all that comes to my mind is what i've experienced over the years at psytrance gatherings where people who have become heavily involved in psychedelic use actually become somewhat like fundamental activists with their opinions on how everything should be. It seems to breed an unique sense of elitism that is fueled by the persons own sense of righteousness, instead of driving towards higher personal development and acceptance they seem to force a wedge between themselves and everything else. (Im guilty of doing exactly this in the past)
I've often wondered if this is a side-effect of psychedelic use within a community of people, opposed to using them on your own. Any confusion from psychedelics may be swayed towards the communities value system, whereas on your own your simply left to yourself.

Are we not living in a psychedelic society today? The forefront producers of technology, art, and literature have almost all been influenced by psychedelics and cannabis. As for a society where psychedelics are socially acceptable, I think that's not too far around the corner personally, but I don't think it'll suddenly turn the world into a utopia or anything. Psychedelics are very useful, but they're catalysts for change in the brain of the individual, while they can help most people in one way or another, they aren't going to suddenly wipe the world free of corruption and greed.
That said, I think if psychedelics were a regular thing among most adults, rather than alcohol, then we'd probably see much nicer, more sensible people overall.

Yes I agree. 'Elitist' is right for a lot of psych users and then there are also those who use psychedelics as a dick-sizing sort of thing like who's the bigger man because they can handle more etc.
I remember my second time at a psytrance festival I was on acid and having a bit of a difficult time - certainly not freaking out or anything just feeling really anxious - and I was with a group of friends of a friend who have used psychedelics every weekend for 10+ years and the most help they were able/willing to give me was 'man up' and 'you'll be right'.
So yes for some people psychedelics can be useful but I'm very skeptical of Timothy Leary type arguments that they can fix society etc

This sounds pretty familiar. Only I think the dicksizing things is not limited to psychedelic use, it is more a general trait of the typical, genetically disadvantaged retards that truly think they are the shit because they can chug down 20 beers and still drive a car. Perhaps the 'elitist' thing is just a phase, as I have had this myself too, and so have most of my psychedelic using buddies. It's not that strange, if you see how absolutely ridiculous most people act and treat eachother. Psychedelics functions as some sort of magnifying glass on irrational human behavior. Then it is up to the user to conclude that taking an elitist standpoint is just as ridiculous, and to open up to all that is different. Realizing that spreading a different message regardless of the outcome or the repay, is the only way to really contribute to any change in the world whatsoever.
What exactly is your point? Oh, and perhaps I am the only one annoyed by this, but there is no 'the government'.
Most countries have their own government; if you mean the US government, I suggest you say 'US government' or 'our government'.

Psychedelic Society? I don't think it'd work in any civilized parts of the world. The only psychedelic societies that work are the native tribes in remote parts of the world. Shamans guide and bring wisdom to the tribe through psychedelic means.
