Esoteric Psychedelic Ideas and Revelations Inaction

I'm not going to be a vegetarian but the idea of buying factory farm/high density feedlot food really turns me off.

I like to buy free range food that is fed organically and not shot up with hormones. The animals at least deserve a happy, healthy life while they're alive. Free range organic food also tastes better and is healthier for you.

^Anyone who is seriously interested in the ethical side of these ideas (and ethics in general), I would refer to Peter Singer's Practical Ethics. It will tell you exactly what to believe and why. ;)

Seriously, though..... the reason to do or not to do these things to fellow creatures is fairly well-thought-out and soundly arguable from an objective perspective in this book. Ethical thought does have a basis in sound cause-effect reasoning. :)

Hm do any of you guys engage in anything to help improve your community? Volunteer work is probably what I'm thinking of.

It's.. kind of sad, to think about eating a living thing. But I mean, even plants are living..

^ This. I mean, why stop to not eating animals, if you truly respect all living things, you shouldn't eat plants either!

Unfortunately, we all have to eat something. Someone or something always dies so that someone or something other may live.

I was 16 and the year was 1982. I had smoked, drank, and poped a few pills until that point saying" I'll never do acid" Well the night arrived when my buddy Randy and I each took one hit of purple micro dot. We were in his bedroom the majority of the night but was introduced to a level of reality I wish I could have stayed in at the time. Maybe it was due to our age and having none of the stress, worry, and general attitudes that come with being an adult. We laughed, we listened to the White Album, Hendrix, watched Benny Hill and drank pepsi all nught. When we started coming down at 6 in the morning we were both really bummed that we had to return to a world that wasn't nearly as colorful, funny, and just downright psychadelic.

That sounds like an awesome first trip :D

I always get kinda bummed coming back to reality to but I get some pretty nice afterglows that usually last quite awhile. At least until I dose on something again. I have been feeling pretty awesome lately :D

Exactly. I'm a strong believer in the food chain and eating meat feels quite natural. Giving the animal a shoe-box, hellish life before it's killed and eaten... doesn't feel so natural.

See this is one of the typical arguments thrown against non-meat eaters...why not take it all the way? As if by eating some living creatures one is somehow worse then those who happily eat anything. Don't make no sense to me....just souds like a way to justify meat-eating (which, by the way, doesn't need to be done- humans eat meat, but you don't HAVE to)....

I'm actually starting to look at meat and think it's kind of gross. Not... completely, but more so than usual. It's.. kind of sad, to think about eating a living thing. But I mean, even plants are living..

im feeling the same way, i ate a t-bone steak for the first time the other week and it creeped me the fuck out

Deli meat is poison

I've been working out in the gym for like 15 years now and to stop eating meat means no protein or poor bio availability and low iron levels, plus I like the taste of meat (no I don't look like your average swirler). HOWEVER, the way in which an animal finds its way to the table is wrong. This is why I have turned to alternative meats. I don't think the mentality of "I am human, it is my god given right to kill anything I want, coz that's why it was put here", hold much water. I heard this lady once say on tv that "the whales were put there for people to make a living from. This lack of consciousness makes me sick. In nature animals kill each other for food all the time, we are no different.

I have nothing against vegetarians or even vegans, in truth your "foot print" on the planet is far small than the meat eaters

As for volunteer work I volunteer my time as a fitness instructor at a youth centre and have done so for about 4 years.

Question: does everyone here see a bloke with larger than average muscle and think dickhead straight away...reason I ask, most people that get to know me usually say after a while something like..."hey man you know what your a really nice person, I thought you were just another fuckhead roid muncher"....or something like that

^ I'll be honest... I do. Not that I mean to, it's just what history has taught me. 90% of all big, strong mesomorphs have been a cruel, arrogant, pompous, condescending pain in the ass over my lifetime.

There are some strong people I know who don't fit that mold and that's nice to see. Most of the time I can tell by the way they look around and the look that's in their eyes. The nice mesomorphs usually have a friendly facial expression while the dickheads have the typical dickhead facial expression.

I grew up around a lot of people that fit the typical "jock" profile :| ..and still see them everywhere I go. I'm an extreme ectomorph BTW, so yeah, you know how that goes around jocks. :\

My brother in law is one husky guy but he's the mildest teddy bear of a guy I know. He's also starting to get more endomorph characteristics in him though. He's also been a dad for the past 5 years so that might have had an influence too.

.

This sadly is the truth, I would just like to ask all in PD not to generalise, may be that is also one good idea for this thread...don't generalise and judge before you have given that person a chance.

I sometimes struggle with eating meat. I know that it's more wasteful to eat meat in our modern world than not. In truth, I have no problem with anyone hunting for animals in the wild if they're going to use it all and it's the way they feed themselves. Free-range farms aren't too bad either although even in this case the amount of food used to feed the animals (especially cows) is many times higher than the amount needed to feed a person... so it seems to me that if we stopped producing so much meat and fed people with the grains and foods used to feed the animals, we could have a lot less hunger in the world.

Factory farming is just plain sick. When I eat meat, which is usually once every week or two (usually chicken, occasionally beef), I make sure it's free-range.

I think that eating meat is a natural part of humanity... it's hypothesized that humans were able to evolve our brain in large part due to the eating of meat. But the way we do it by and large (factory farming) is terrible for the planet and ourselves. And many people (especially in the American midwest) eat way too much. I grew up in the midwest, and to my family it wasn't a meal unless there was meat. I would eat meat 2-3 times a day... beef most days, more than any other meat. Nowadays I feel all loaded down and weird if I eat meat very often, so I don't usually eat it. We have options to be able to get all the nutrition we need these days without meat, but this is only due to the ability to transport foods from around the world to us. Which is also wasteful, really. What is best for the planet is to eat only local foods. In many cases, this includes meat. If our infrastructure collapsed, meat eating would be a necessity for many around the world, especially in less verdant climates.

For some reason, meat eating or lack thereof is a really hot topic for a lot of people. Ever notice how many meat-eaters get ALL freaked out if you say you don't eat meat? It's an odd trend.

Hey, I have nothing against non-meat-eaters either. Nor am I trying to justify anything. Truthfully, I don't even eat all that much meat. I don't eat all that much period... you know we ex-speed freaks have a really hard time to get used to healthy eating habits.

I was even a vegetarist at a point in my life. Well, it didn't work out in the long run.

..oh damn, I have to go. I'll continue this later...
