Here's a mushroom effect that you don't hear or read about often but is an interesting if somewhat intense experience.
i was reading some old Gracie and Zarkov notes from the seventies on their explorations with Three Beta-Carboline containing plants such as Passiflora incarnata (passion flower), Peganum harmala (syrian rue) and Bansteriopsis caapi (principal ingredient in yage).
In one of the bio-assays of the potentiating affects of an maoi on mushrooms they mention "the mushroom knockdown" and when I read that I remembered a couple of times that this has happened to me on high dose cubensis mushrooms, it's very hard to accurately describe it because it is so overwhelming but it is similar to a DMT breakthrough but in a reverse energy kind of way,
It is definitely a process that is part of a transition to hyperspace but on DMT it's a high energy exploding upwards and outwards kind of rushing shift where as the mushroom knockdown moment is where all energy and structure seem to leave the scene for a moment, it is a crushing collapse, it doesn't happen when you are already lying down or rolling nicely into the first wave hitting, it seems to require a few external circumstances to be in place, it only ever happens when i have done a thorough fast of at least 12 hours of no food at all preceded by a couple of days of pretty light diet that has avoided the big no no's on the mao watchlist (cheese, alcahol, chocolate, dairy, yoghurt, cofee, bananas etc..).
About 20 minutes before eating the shrooms sprinkle about 1/4 to 1/2 a gram of crushed syrian rue seeds onto a weed joint and smoke it.
Also it requires a large dose of at least 7 to 8 potent dried grams of cubes taken all at once as quickly as possible, not chewed slowly over 20 minutes but whizzed up in the blender and mixed with water or juice and skulled in one slamming gulp.
Then.. do not head for the big fluffy cushions or the big soft bed but just carry on as normal, go do some stuff in the garden or start tidying up the house, be active...
If you have taken a big enough dose when the first big wave hits you it will come on so fast and so hard you will literally have no time to head for the chill room or the couch, it will just floor you, it's a total collapse, a complete surrender of your whole system to the absolute onslaught of chemical change that is hitting your brain, you lose the ability to even think about normal limb movement, everything goes dark, the body load is exquisite if you're not panicking, it's as fast and immersive as it hits as any DMT breakthrough I've ever had.
It's kinda like someone just dropped an elephant on you, or a silk blanket that weighs 2 tons.
As you hit the floor in a crumpled heap you now find you have broken out of 3d right into the depths and heart of tryptamine land, the world you were in has now essentially been replaced with this hyperspace hybrid reality that is all gooey and bendy, the air is thicker, your audio sensory system is popping and buzzing and there is a strange symbiosis starting to meld through all your separate senses, you can smell as part of your touch, you can taste ideas, you can see the colour of a memory or hear yourself blinking.
The visuals are absolute, the concept of closed eye open eye states is irrelevant its just an explosion of colour and geometry and you are in the middle of it.
But I digress, "The knockdown moment" was the point of the post, because it is one of those unique and repeatable psychedelic experiences and in my opinion it's worth shooting for, especially if you want the hyperspace tryptamine breakthrough experience and have either never been able to get any nn-dmt or have just never managed to break through with dmt.
Once again psilocybin has shown me another layer to it's character, another trick up it's fungal sleeve, it seems that tryptamines do have their own individual essence up to a point, (the yage sprit is very different from the mushroom which is different to the DMT elves and so on), but the breakthrough point where you are catapulted to hyperspace does seem to be available from most tryptamines when you have flooded the receptor site with sufficient quantities, McKenna called it "getting closer to the bulls eye - the center of the mandala" I am beginning to see what he meant.
