Psilocybin headaches caused by vasoconstriction / rebound vasodilation?

I always get headaches from psilocybin and I'm looking for ways to mitigate against this. I don't believe this is caused by dehydration. I drink large amounts of water daily and I've tried using pedialyte before during, and after my trips and there was no difference in the intensity or duration of the headaches.

The headaches typically begin during the comedown period at what I would estimate to be 5-8 hours after dosing.

The intensity of the headaches seems to be directly commensurate with dose. 1g of dry Ps. cubensis will yield a very mild headache that typically dissipates in 12-24 hours. 5g or more will cause an intense, pounding headache that gradually dissipates over 2-3 days.

Is it more likely that the delayed headache is caused by vasoconstriction or would it be caused by something like rebound vasodilation?

I searched and found some posts mentioning cayenne as a possible remedy to try for headaches caused by vasoconstriction but I was unable to locate anything that relates to my specific inquiry.

I would greatly appreciate any information anyone has on ways that I might attempt to prevent or minimize these headaches. Or some guidance as to what other substances I could try to help minimize this problem.

Thanks

Lol dude, vasoconstrictors reduce the intensity, if not eliminate headaches. Vasodilators however make them worse.

Try another species of mushroom next time, or pure psilocybin? It might work if your body isn't absorbing something in the particular fungi properly.

^^ So why wouldn't it cause headaches in everyone?

Everyone who drinks coffee pressure rises to 160/100? No. This is the answer. People react different to the chemicals. I often get headaches after psychedelics use, my exgirlfriend not.

I've had headaches on shrooms and bad xtc that was PMA.. never had headaches on good xtc and shrroms, that one time I had migraine headaches for 4-5 days on/off after words.. was horrible, never had migraines before in my life, I feel for anyone who gets them regulary w/o taking drugs..

Since that time the smell of shrooms alone causes a near headache.. that was like 8-10 years ago.. don't know if I can shroom w/o getting a headache now or not.. haven't had the chance in years..

Vasodilatation is the reason

Would taking another vasoconstrictor during the comedown possibly be a remedy then? Or would this result in an even larger vasodilation effect after the attempted "remedy vasoconstrictor" wears off?

I recall thinking drinking a couple cans of Coca Cola, not realizing at the time that Caffeine has vasoconstrictive properties, and it may have helped the headache but the improvement in the headache was so mild as to be inconclusive.

Anybody have any input on whether or not it would be wise of me to try taking a small dose of pseudoephedrine (vasoconstrictor) next time during the comedown phase?

Or whether I should take a vasodilator before/during the trip to minimize the vasoconstriction *while* tripping and therefore reducing the subsequent rebound vasodilation?

I'm no medical expert so please forgive me if the above sounds like a bullshit hypothesis.

Thanks

yeh, have you tried the standby acetaminophen or ibuprofen yet? those usually do pretty well in reducing headache intensity.

But mushrooms do prevent or remedy cluster headaches or migraines just like LSD, right? Is this a completely separate mechanism or is the reason that serotonergic psychedelics can activate or inhibit neural pathways, although I'm sure this doesn't mean the preference or likelihood is always 50/50, on the contrary. If I'm wrong please correct me.

LSD use has reduced the frequency and severity of migraine headaches for me. In fact, its all but eliminated them.

However, I too get a headache after the effects of mushrooms have worn off.
