My friend and I had been planning for a week to acquire some mushrooms and go hiking in a nearby area on the weekend. We both bought 1/8 (3.5g), and met up around 10:30AM to start our trip. I brought a quesadilla, two bottles of water, my iPod and headphones, and two Clif bars.
We hiked up a good amount and sat down at around 11:20 or so to eat. I stuffed the mushies on a piece of quesadilla and ate it, then put whatever was left on some chips with guacamole and ate that. As it turns out, mexican food is the perfect thing to mask the taste of mushies with.
I only got two entries in to my trip journal:
00:15- Minute (most likely psychosomatic) effects noted- I feel slightly altered
00:21- +/- to +. Patterning and visuals are just barely noted.
As the effects became more pronounced and noticeable, my friend and I got up to walk around for a better view of the hills. I felt heavy but light-headed.
As we were walking up the side of a particularly colorful hill, I noticed how beautiful all the plants looked- how vibrant the yellows, greens, and browns were. I also felt that I had dreamt the situation out before, as I had a strange deja vu-like phenomena.
We came to a spot on this hill which had a large rock and afforded a spectacular view of the hillsides and a couple other trails. This is where we stayed for the rest of our time in nature.
At first, we were very giggly and happy, laughing about simple things. I recall talking with my friend about pot, and we decided that "smoking pot feels like nothing." We marveled at the beautiful and vibrant hills, and hexagonal blue patterns popped out of the sky. We joked about how all we did was take up space, and that all that anything did was take up space. We were enjoying ourselves very much.
Unfortunately, as the trip progressed, I lay down next to my friend and became completely confused. Ends wouldn't meet, and I couldn't understand much. I felt uncomfortable and confused at nothing. The trip became very difficult as I had trouble making sense of anything, and was very unhappy. I was not worried about death, but rather worried about how much time I was wasting laying down on the hill, but not being able to motivate myself to get up.
This lasted for what seemed like several hours (time was distorted), and eventually my friend and I felt sober enough to get up and walk back to the strip mall where we met up. We were both confused and a little dehydrated, so I bought a half gallon of water and sat silent at a table for a while, waiting for the bus. When we departed, I returned to my other friend's house (where I had been staying) and chain smoked, not having anything to say for an hour or so.
After this time period, I had nearly sobered up and had a lengthy conversation with him about death and life.
All in all, it was a very intense (and difficult) experience, but not without a reward. Prior to having this experience, I would constantly feel derealized and dreamy, like I was living in a dream. I now feel completely normal, and am very happy I had this experience.
I will most certainly be returning to mushrooms.
