I was prescribed prozac today. 10 mg for a week then 20 mg. But I just came back from the bar and had 3 pints.

Would it be safe to start taking it now? Or would it mess me up.

I want to start taking it ASAP!

I don't think there's any problem with your starting your Prozac now, just take the prescribed dosage and no more or more often.

I was on Prozac for like 20 years and never had ONE single problem drinking with it.

Sure, they SAY it can increase side effects but it's not going to be likely to be very dangerous like drinking with a CNS depressant.

Also, it takes a good 2--6 weeks for the Prozac to start working, probably closer to 6, so you won't even feel it for a while.

i would wait until you sober up before taking
i wouldnt make it a habbit of drinking while on prozac as the alcohol will eliminate the prozac which in turn will be a complete waste of the prozac

That's just not true man.

Like I said, I drank on Prozac for so many years and Prozac always worked just as well for me.

Every SINGLE time I drank from age 18--age 34 I was on Prozac lol.

While drinking on SSRIs (moderately, of course) is generally okay, it's a good rule of thumb to not have anything else in your system/actively affecting you when you start any new medication as you could always have an allergic or some other sort of reaction to the drugs. In this case, if this is your first go, you may be one of the unlucky few who take SSRIs and get suicidal ideations. So I'd wait until you sober up and get some sleep.

Yeah I don't know.

I mean obviously I don't know the science behind it, but I used to feel prozac worked for me while I still regularly drank on it.

Now I am taking Lexapro and I've gotten drunk several times while taking it and still feel it helps me.

I also talked to a doctor about it as well and he said he didn't think that alcohol would decrease the effectiveness of the Lexapro but warned me that there could be side effects because they recommend not to mix SSRIs with booze, but I've done it so many times I'm not worried.
