Prozac and ADD

I went to the doctor recently to try and get some meds for my ADD. I havnt been treated for it since i was in middle school and took ritalin. Anyways the doctor gave me a script for 10mg Prozac. Does anyone understand the logic behind this?
 
Either he's a shit dr, or, more likely, he doesn't think you really have ADD.
 
I think you might be right on both counts. Looking back on my visit, i remember him refering to my body mods as mutillation. Perhaps that would explain the prozac. As far as him not giving me some ADD meds i dont know what was up with that because it is in my medical file that i was diagnosed with it. Oh well, i guess i should probably just visit a different doctor, because i'm definately not taking the Prozac, and i dont wanna deal with that guy again.
 
That sucks man...how rude of him to 'interpret' your body modifications like that...that is so not his place.

Yeah, definitely see another dr, and perhaps request the medicine you used to take? Be very firm about it -- 'I was diagnosed with ADD a few years ago and they gave me ____ for it and it worked really well, so I'd like to go back on it.' Dr's are usually eager to re-prescribe a med that has worked well for the patient in the past. Whatever happens, make it clear that you feel that your ONLY issue is ADD and that you do NOT want meds for any other kind of disorder.

A dr might prescribe you strattera (it's a new, non-abusable ADD med which seems quite promising), but if you would prefer adderall/ritalin/dexedrine then I would just ask for that, especially if you have used those before (as strattera wouldn't have been around when you were first diagnosed).
 
I would definately prefer adderall or dexedrine, but if the doctor wont give them to me for whatever reason, I will definately check into this Strattera.
