Hi, new here and have searched everywhere for an answer. Does anyone know if Provigil will help with Adderall withdrawls? Ive been taking high does of amp for about 3 months. Went through 120 IR Ritalin in about a week, thats what it started with and most recently as of today just finished off 30 15mg IR Adderall that I got filled only 48 hours ago. Inbetween all of this in the last 3 months I have gotten a hold of Vyvanse, Adderall XR, and Dex, both of which I snorted, ate and plugged. I now have a prescrip for Provigil which I don't actally abuse (surprise) Has anyone tried taking this for amp withdrawl and not actually abusing it? Is it somewhat the same structurally enough to avoid terrible depressing, sweating, fatigue, etc. They cost me about $26 each so it's an investment but one I will make if it will help. Man i've done this numerous times, with opiates as well, and it really blows. You would think I could learn from my mistakes, but nooooooooooooooo. Sucks.

I actually think it might help you. Provigil has been shown to increase dopamine and noradrenaline (norepinephrine) in the striatum and nucleus accumbens, the latter of which is an integral part of the brain's dopaminergic reward pathway. Since "withdrawals" from amphetamines are most likely the result of depleted levels of dopamine (and, possibly, norepinephrine) in the prefrontal cortex, taking provigil during amphetamine cessation would most likely at least partially replenish your suffering levels of dopamine/NE.

It certainly is not dangerous to take provigil during amphetamine withdrawal, so you might try it out and give us a report back. But from a pharmacological viewpoint it would make sense that provigil would ease the symptoms, although perhaps not as much as amphetamine itself or a related derivative.

Additionally, I wanted to throw it out there that snorting Vyvanse is a complete waste since it is a precursory drug to dextroamphetamine, which it can only be converted to during digestion in the GI tract.

Lastly, I would urge you to reevaluate your use of amphetamines. I don't want to sound like I am preaching, because I have abused amphetamines enough in my life to experience amphetamine psychosis. On top of all that, chronic high-dose use of amphetamines has been definitively linked to irreversible degradation of dopamine receptors, meaning that you may be feeling lethargic and shitty for a LOT longer than the typical withdrawal lasts. We're talking years, if not a lifetime of impaired neural functioning.
It's just something you ought to be aware of, but it's most certainly your life - I want to stress that. No judgment from my side of the screen, here, as I have been there before, doing what you've been doing - and much worse/for much longer - a few years ago. I am now settled into a daily regimen of dextroamphetamine for adult ADD, but I do not abuse my meds any longer............ and I am now able to function normally.

Peace and all that stuff :)

It will work for withdrawal from any stim, because it makes you slightly speedy and it counters tiredness/sleepiness.

Amphetamine abuse damages the dopaminergic system-the part of your brain responsible for alertness and wellbeing. Abuse can lead to chronic lethergy, depression, laziness, even to get up in the morning becomes a MAJOR task. I seen a few speed freaks in mental hospitals-not a pretty sight.

Live and learn.

"Wisdom is learning from the mistakes of others." ^agreed^

Thats why i'll never touch meth not even 'only once'

I'm not abusing and I still struggle to get things going in the beginning of the day and feel like it is worth doing once I begin. Knowing the direction of the Union and fighting 100 F heat on a daily basis also makes it rough to see the light.

Thanks for all of the above, can't believe I spelled withdrawal wrong, I am already not thinking correctly. 2nd day of Provigil instead of the other stims, it's not going great but better than it would of been without. I am super cranky, completely short with everyone I run into, and not a happy camper. BUT I am not riddled with fatigue which is a blessing because that would make the days unbearable. No sweating or cravings either. I will report back at day 5 (thats when I run out and either have to buy more or go without). It's hard taking care of two small children in the mean time.
BTW, no snorting Vyvanse here, just a bunch of re-dosing which is a waste as well.

Thanks for the report - please do report back on day 5/6. Hope it all goes well, amphetamine's "behavioral withdrawal" (as I fondly refer to it as 8) ) is so shitty; adding two small children into the pot? My heart goes out to you!!!

Stay strong.
