I know its a beta blocker, but will effects of 10mg of propranolol be like 10mg of valium or similar?

I found a packet of 10mg pills in the kitchen draw lol what effects would I get from 20mg?

Does it have ANY recreational value??

No, it's not like a benzodiazepine, although it is very good at eliminating the physical symptoms of anxiety.

Do not take beta blockers that were not prescribed to you. Don't start out with 20mg either.... This is a blood pressure medication.....

No absolutely nothing like benzos. I take 160mg every morning. I would know. They are used for high blood pressure. So if you take them with normal blood pressure you will give yourself low blood pressure = very bad idea.

No recreational value AT ALL.

I was prescribed both propranalol and benzos for anxiety. They are nothing like benzos, and have absolutely no recreational value, whatsoever. Youd get a stronger buzz looking at the sun.

edit: I took 40 mg daily for a while, i noticed no difference other than reduced "jumpiness", And i dont mean sedation, I just mean a lack of physical anxiety symptoms with no mental reason. Helpfull for panic attacks and people with high blood pressure, but not recreational value at all.

I've heard that methocarbomal (robaxin aka back pain relieve otc med) in lower doses can feel similar to lorazepam, I actually read a study where lorazepam, methocarbomal and diphenhidramine were given to whatever amount of people, and methocarbonal sedation effects and likability was as good if not more liked than the effects of lorazepam believe it or not.

here's the link if you wanna read in more detail.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1501118

edit: nvm upon further reading the study actually used rather high doses of methocarbomal, 2g and 9.5g which seems rather insane to me but I have never actually tried the drug myself so I don't know what it's effects are like.

EDIT 2: nvm the ld50 is 1320mg/kg in mice, which is actually quite a high ld50, meaning you'd probably have to ingest over 20g (on the safe side) to have any serious problems.

I was prescribed propranalol for physical anxiety symptoms. It was nothing like a benzo, no sedation or relaxtion, no sleepiness.
All it did for me was eliminate shakes, sweats, and stutters that I would have when giving speeches in college. It was great for that.

If you do get it prescribed, DO NOT take with cocaine... can lead to abnormally high blood pressure. I have no clue if you use coke or not,
but I figured I would mention it just in case.

Yeah, as you see, they are no fun at all. Move along people!

Which dose of propranolol were you guys prescribed for anxiety?

Would it be safe to try that dose to minimize physical symptoms of amps or cocaine comedown like jittery, heavy breathing?

ive been curious about this for anxiety ,for anxiety purposes do u have to redose during the day or can u just take one a day or just when u need it

They are a better long term medication for panic attacks and social phobia than benzos, which should only be used for short term only. You can definitely build a physical dependence to beta blockers, but tapering off of them is extremely easy compared to the hell of benzo tapering/withdrawal.

HydroChronic, a lot of beta blockers have woefully short half lives. My favorite is Toprol XL (Metoprolol ER), I take that once a day. It's surprisingly great for anxiety, some people forget that these beta blockers cross the BBB. It's not as good for mental anxiety than benzos, but benzos grab you by the fucking balls.

They're used for anxiety as well, regardless of what your BP is. They won't necessarily make you have low blood pressure if you have normal blood pressure. There are diminishing returns. The higher your blood pressure to begin with, the greater it's lowered by the B-blocker, and vice versa. It will lower your blood pressure, but won't necessarily give you "low" blood pressure. Obviously this is dose dependent, as is every other drug.

^ Also, certain beta blockers are more lipophilic than others. The more lipophilic a beta blockers is, the more readily it crosses the BBB.
