propoxyphene -- help!

i received 3x100mgs propoxyphene/500mg apap pills today for free, well he told me they were oxy zzz...before i took them, i looked them up on google and they turned out to be propoxyphene. i took 100mg at 12, 100mg at 1, and another 100mg at 2. is this a toxic dose; should i be worried lol?? i am also on sub and 50mg tramadol today, i feel good though :)

Didn't that get withdrawn from market?

Don't have much experience with it but i'm pretty sure that 300mg isn't too high a dose, especially if you already have opi tolerance.
 
yeah, i thought they were off the market too! i guess not, or maybe he had a stash and wanted to be cool??
 
Propoxyphene has been taken off the market in some countries lately the USA. However I'm sure a few people still have a bottle of darvon or darvocet in their medicine cabinet. 300mg's of propoxyphene is not a toxic dose but mixing propoxyphene with tramadol is a very bad idea! Both propoxyphene and tramadol lower the seizure threshold so taking them both together will increase your risk of a seizure even more.

Don't bother with propoxyphene personally i would chuck it in the trash. I have taken it a few times and every time i ended up puking my guts out and it's useless for pain or euphoria. As shitty as tramadol is atleast it does something and i would certainly take it over darvon any day. If you have bupe don't take it with propoxyphene as it could cause withdrawals. It's not much of a mu agonist but it should be strong enough to fuck with bupe. Plus i don't see any sense in taking darvocet when you have suboxone.

Darvocet-n is fucking useless. Suposedly darvon the hydrochloride salt rather than the napsylate(which is insoluble in just about everything and absorbed slowly) ain't too bad. You probably felt good because propoxyphene inhibits CYP3A4, make the buprenorphine stronger.
 
I've nodded out alot on Darvocet and it would fuck me up good with just 2 pills (cant remember dose tho). That was back in the day when I was using Oxy to help control my pain. I ran out and my wifes mom gave me some to hold me over. I had a decent tolerance at the time. Maybe I was just lucky?

Good to know about the mixture with tramadol as thats what I take now (I am tapered down but still want something thats a bit better than tylenol for the breakthrough pain).
 
Propoxyphene really isn't worth it at all, for the potential toxicity it can cause - it was withdrawn from the market for a reason! Definitely not one to mess around with as it can be cardiotoxic, cause pulmonary oedema and lower the seizure threshold, as PA said. The cardiovascular effects of propoxyphene (slow heart rate, arrhythmias, potentially fatal) cannot be reversed by naloxone either.

300mg isn't a high dose so don't worry laC but it definitely isn't something I would bother taking!
 
I used to get tons of Propoxyphene napsylate back in the day, and for the life of me I never could get a buzz from it even when I drank heavily with it. of course, I was young and stupid (as opposed to now being old and stupid) so I kept taking them anyway. They are useless. You haven't taken too much, but I wouldn't bother taking any more for sure .
