I wouldn't usually ask a question like this on the board but I've just started an English teaching job in a foreign country and as I suffer severe crippling Anxiety I wondered what would be a better option whilst teaching.

Alprazolam (xanax) or Propanolol?

Thanks.

have you ever tried any of them before? i had never even heard of this Propanolol before, but after a quick google search it seems that it isn't exactly for anxiety, more like hypertension. try both and see what works better for you i guess.

Alprazolam is gonna be like an almost instant anxiety relief. if you have to be anxiety free for a longer period of time though (like 6 hours for example) i'd rather go with Clonazepam as it lasts longer.

just don't do them every day and don't abuse them. imo, benzos are GREAT for a short relief from anxiety, when you really need it, but only for that, a short relief. they aren't the cure. if you have overall anxiety problems benzos are definitely not the answer, go with CBT and therapy man...

again, don't use them often and don't abuse them or you'll get addicted. i never got addicted but everyone says benzos are a terrible habit to kick... i probably have not stressed this last part enough... but you can see around here lots of people talking about how addicting benzos are and all the likes... so take care with them...

propanolol will calm some of the psychical symptoms of anxiety but it won't calm your head xanax will calm all aspects of anxiety just be careful to not overdo it or get addicted

Propanalol is good for the physical symptoms of anxiety but will do nothing for the mental aspect of it in my experience. It may help you somewhat but low doses of alprazolam as needed will be a better option. I would use both as needed. Remember that alprazolam is an addictive substance and do not overdo it or take it for too long or too often or it will loose its effectiveness.

Xanax will just make everything worse in the long run, in my experience and many others- and I never even abused my benzo scripts. They are magical at first, but will bite you in the ass really quick with paradoxical effects, physical dependency, and tolerance issues. I would use them as a last resort. Go with Propanalol or even vistaril first is my suggestion to you.
