This is a bit of a rant.

A friend suffers from multiple sclerosis and I remembered that I had read that cannabis can help the symptoms and had a vague recollection of a report that cannabis can actually reverse some degenerative nervous system disorders. So I thought I might suggest cannabis to this person and did a google search on 'multiple sclerosis cannabis'.

The first item that comes up is a google ad -

"Facts About Marijuana - Smoking weed has effects for all.
www.drugs.health.gov.au/
Research the real risks now."

which when clicked on does not mention a thing about multiple sclerosis and basically shoots down anyone looking for a positive.

The second item is a set of three scholarly articles reporting on how cannabis helps MS sufferers.

"Scholarly articles for multiple sclerosis cannabis
… of smoked cannabis on patients with multiple sclerosis - Pertweed - Cited by 252
… of cannabis-based medicine in central pain in multiple … - Rog - Cited by 248
… on symptoms in multiple sclerosis? A double-blind, … - Wade - Cited by 199"

Then there is a New Scientist article titled "Cannabis truly helps multiple sclerosis sufferers"

"Cannabis truly helps multiple sclerosis sufferers - 10 September ...
www.newscientist.com/.../dn6387-cannabis-truly-helps-multiple-scler...
10 Sep 2004 – Cannabis may loosen the stiff and spastic muscles of multiple sclerosis sufferers, and not just their minds, a follow-up study has found."

===========

So why is it that the Australian government has this #1 priority arcane 'fact' sheet that does not mention a thing about possible medical benefits of cannabis when there is clearly progress being made on this? Can someone please fix this????

fucking hell. that is some slick drug marketing right there. i'll have one of those and one of those and one of those and one of those and some of that and a little bit of that mm mmmm.
what i don't understand is why the government distributes such high definition drug porn with weird lists of negative side effects and symptoms of use. why?

it isn't helpful, there is nothing there that makes me think "i shouldn't take drugs". it's just a bunch of nice clean looking drugs and "ORDER FREE RESOURCES" - what the hell is that all about?
this sort of stuff does my head in. like orwellian double-speak; glossy drug advertisements telling you how bad drugs are. fucked up.
it is sort of saying "do drugs" "they're bad" "you want them" "we'll arrest you". weird. maybe i visit too many drug sites, but this shit is tapped.

Hahahaha Yeah no shit thats some serious drug porn!

Im no doctor but its not gonna hurt.

Im pretty sure if your friend has an honest talk with his doctor about using weed to allevate pain he'll give him an honest answer.
Ive herd (second hand) of peoples doctors recommending weed for serious conditions like MS.

That would depend very much on the individual doctor. It's sad but chances are high your doctor won't even have a rational view of the pros/cons of cannabis.

Lucky Cannabis doesn't have any dangerous drug interactions and you're free to self-medicate without too much worry, other than you know, losing your freedom...

People need to wake up and realise drugs aren't the only things governments release lie-ridden propaganda about. This extends to terrorism, health campaigns, policy support ads, basically everything they try to tell you what to think about. Sadly Australia is following in the footsteps of Britain and the US, and they're well on their way to 1984 becoming reality.
