Promethazine

Do not take it in high doses!

Cause delirum which is scary as fuck, please dont.

Plus its very damaging to your heart.
 
Ive never heard of such.. I have had Promethazine prescribed for a long time.
 
In low (prescribed dosages) it should be fine. Promethazine is technically a phenothiazine first-generation anti-psychotic, but it is fairly weak compared to others. However, in high enough dosages, I imagine the same warnings would apply that apply to use of anti-psychotics.

How often are you using promethazine and what dosages are you using, etc?
 
Not sure about brain damage, but it carries the same risks as other anti-histamines (sedation, delirium). It definitely adds to the sedative effects of other depressants, so be careful not to combine it with opiates, alcohol or other depressants in high doses.
 
They combine it with opiates already.

Mepergan used to be Demerol+Promethazine.

Many low-level cough syurps (Rx only in many states) are codeine or hydrocodone + promethazine.

The theory is the prometh combats the itchies and nausea in opiate naive patients.
 
I read on the internet that promethazine is not to be taken for more than 10 days. (pharmacist told me its ok to take as long as ya loike though)

Ive certainly taken it for more than 10 days before. its fairly strong stuff.
I take zyprexa now. used to take seroquel (antipychotics) & i can tell u its dose equivelent to seroquel. 75mg seroquel = 75mg prometh (im pretty sure i read this on net somwhere s i could be incorrect.

at small doses seroquel is just a sedating anthistamine.

& as for high doses. i think the OP is only talking about what it says on the packet. 25mg - 75mg. im sure his using them for insomnia/allergies & not some crazy delerium effect.
diphenhydramine is alot more documented if u really wanna fuck around with delerients. but its a really bad idea... take dxm if u wanna play around with otc psychodelics. its a disasociative & u can atleast remember its effect.

weird thing is i felt prometh was a cleaner sleeping tablet than seroquel.
im surprized its otc. much better for sleeping than benzos.

In the United States, at least it isn't otc., it's prescription. But it works in similar fashion as benedryl does, so yeah it will have sedative effects but even with high doses, it shouldnt cause brain damage - though I wouldnt personally recommend it...
 
Why the fuck would anyone want to take high doses of promethazine?

I did it once on accident. I was unaware that it caused delirium so anyway I kept chugging on the bottle because I was prescribed it for a cough (along with a shit load of other things) and it wasn't working. So I kept drinking and eventually there was only a 1/4 of the bottle left and I started hallucinating (auditory) and became delirious and paranoid. Was awful. Thought the neighbors were smoking weed and that they invited me over so I kept talking with them over the wall and they would say shit like "no, you can't have any" and I was begging. I went over to the door but had second thoughts.
 
Wow.. good thing I never had the urge to overdose/experiment with my Promethazine then!

In high doses it can also give you restless legs. NOT pleasant!!

But brain damage? No.

Many people use them as sleeping pills (The trade name where I live is Phenergan).
