Opioids promethazine and tramadol

so i read you should take promethazine with tramadol 'cause it lowers your seizure threshold
promethazine is one of my sleeping meds
if i took 50mg at around 11pm and then took 100mg tramadol like 12-3pm the next day, would i be fine?

EDIT: I ready i could take some valium before taking the tramadol to reduce seizure
How far ahead should i take it? would 20-25mg valium be enough when i have a bit of a benzo tolerance?

I would not combine medications that both lower the seizure threshold. Taking valium will not prevent you from having a seizure, it only stops seizures after they begin and has to be administered IV using the injectable prep to do so.
 
Well, the diazepam wouldn't hurt, even if the OP was a little mistaken.

To the OP: The real questions are:
  1. How much Tramadol do you plan to take?
  2. How much Tramadol do you normally take?
  3. How often do you take Tramadol?
  4. Are you prone to seizures?
  5. Have you ever had a seizure?

If you're only taking 100-200mg of Tramadol, the antihistamine probably won't give you any problems. 300mg+ and you're getting into dangerous territory.

It really depends largely on your history. I mean, while I don't suggest you try this without knowing how it will effect you, I can take 400mg+ and shitloads of diphen or promethazine over the course of the day. So, if you haven't had a seizure and are not prone to one, I feel safe saying 100-200mg Tramadol and 50mg of Promethazine will not give you any problems.

I see that you have a benzo tolerance. Make sure you recently (like within the last four hours) have taken whatever benzo (or the valium) you take. DO NOT take Tramadol with Promethazine if you feel any withdrawal symptoms from your benzos. You should not under any circumstances take drugs that lower you seizure threshold while you are withdrawing from benzos/cns depressants. Just withdrawing from such drugs on its own can seriously lower your seizure threshold.

I wouldn't take Tramadol if you have problems with insomnia, and if Promethazine is just "one of your sleeping meds." Tramadol is quite speedy, and will keep me up for 12 hours since my last dose at 100mg, and 16 hours since my last dose at 150mg. Plus, the quality of sleep on tramadol is terrible if you do end up falling asleep before it wears off.

I find it far more physically stimulating than Caffeine, Ephedrine, or Dexedrine.

Taking Valium with it is a whole different story, though.

i've take 50mg once before and i didn't feel anything
i'm not gonna take it with anything else
the reason i asked about the promethazine is because it's my sleep med, but it's been like over 12 hours since i took it, shouldn't i bee fine then?

i've never had a seizure before

i have no benzo withdrawals either, i was never addicted or took them long enough to get any, i just took them every now and then, then i'd stop for a while and i did that a few times but this time i'ma take a proper tolerance break so i thought i'd just try out tramadol

You should be fine taking your promethazine 12 hours after dosing 100-150mg tramadol, don't worry.

Yup. This is correct. Given your moderate dosages of both drugs, as well as no noted preexisting risk factors, you should also be fine if you took the promethazine with the tramadol. I see no reason for you to seize up in your immediate future ;)

Even though you aren't w/ding from benzos, I'd still suggest, given your history of taking them, that you should strongly consider taking 5 or 10mgs of diazepam 30min or so before you take the promethazine (regardless of whether you are going to combine the promethazine and tramadol).

EDIT: although I agree with Ergic that tramadol tends to be a little speedy and stimulating, I never had problems sleeping on it. In fact, although it might have taken a little while longer to fall asleep (but not by much), I really enjoy rolling around in bed, quasi nodding on the tramadol while I stretched out my limbs.

I tend to combine tram with an antihistamine like Promethazine, Diphenhydramine, Dimenhydrinate or Doxylamine, ther are more H antagonists I have not mentioned because of prices, side effects profiles or becuase I simply do not know them. Promethazine works best and is slightly sedating, but not OTC here, so I usually choose Diphenhydramine. It takes some of the edginess off Tram's SNRI components. I personally unlike toothpastedog cannot sleep on tramadol alone, not if I take it right before bed time. The effects transition into a more sedated one after 4-5h or so and it becomes easier then, but I try to never take it after 6pm or so and if I do only with an extra dose of one of the mentioned antihistamine's.
Also, almost all prescribed Tramadol comes in XR form here which probably further helps the easy legal status it enjoys.

Why are you worried about seizures? As long as you keep the dosage reasonable, you should be fine (200mg at one max, no more than 400 per day, it has a very long hl for some though!)
After a while of abstinence, this is how I got the most out of my Tram, this might be tweakable:

-Ideally I drink 1L Grapefruit Juice the day before and another in the morning of the same day
-I predose with an nmda antagonist about an hour before taking Tram, weak dose of readily available dxm (otc), but strong ones like K or PCP can do magic as well
-Tram is freed of it's XR formula, a real mess, I try to have an empty stomach when I drink the emulsion, since tram can take forever otherwise.
-As soon as I begin to feel the SNRI/slight opioid mood enhancement, I drop 50mg Diphenhydramine and then add more later should that not get me to nod

It really is one of my favourite opioids and leaves me more functional even at high doses, probably because the snri thing. maybe just because im telling myself this, so i wont have to reach for heroin, fent, hydropmorphone, oxymorphone etc.

It scores pretty well in my book as both a mild pain management drug, a very effective antidepressant as well. It's hugely popular (often presribed) along with Tilidin here in Germany, tolerance, withdrawal and side effects are less than with other opiates I've tried except the sweating maybe which I always get pretty bad even in winter.

Don't get hooked on all those colorful pills man, it'll only allow your life to take a turn for the worse ime... :/
